Fixing The DCEU

Everybody seems to have issues with the movies thus far. How would you have fixed certain movies, what did you think worked and what did you think didn’t work and why and how would you have fixed it?

I liked BvS but they should've went with the ultimate version out the gate. They also should've kept Doomsday under wraps and overall not revealed so much in the trailers. Speaking of Doomsday, it would've helped if he didn't look like a LOTR orc. Definitely a poor casting choice with Eisenberg as Luthor. I think those changes would've resulted in a much better received movie.

Suicide Squad was supreme ass but allegedly Ayer's cut was heavily meddled with. So I'd say maybe if they'd went with his uncut version it would've been better. Certainly couldn't have been worse. I also wouldn't have shown literally all of Joker's scenes in the trailers. Enchantress was a poor choice as a villain and casting the actress that played her was even worse.

Justice League was doomed from the start with studio meddling and Snyder having to depart and Whedon's reshoots. Only way to have saved that would've been a complete do-over with one singular vision.

I ain't got no suggestions for MoS or WW because I thought those were just fine. I think Aquaman is gonna be good too.

I would have stretched bvs for 3 movies. Told the full story of the death of Superman down to the clones n everything.

They tried to do too much in one movie.

Justice league could have waited.

Suicide squad and Leto's joker could have been redeemed in one scene.

If joker pushes Harley out of the helicopter in an attempt to kill her for flirting with dead shot.... The movie is dramatically better. They were afraid to pull the trigger on that character and it showed.

But going forward they're heading in the right direction.... Let comic book people make comic book movies.

Geoff johns is the most important and powerful person in DC and he is now in control of the movies....

I trust geoff.... He'll get it right

I loved BvS. did have some minor gripes, but i thought it was a cool movie. Suicide Squad i thought would be totally different and Justice league was just a mess. From what I've read, the studios last minute changes to "lighten up" the films really had a negative effect on the final products. Things in Suicide Squad seemed out of place, cgi was horrible for the final fight. Its like you could tell what scenes had been thrown in at the last minute. From the sounds of it, the villain was supposed to be much different too.

Justice League was WB not having faith in Zack Snyder. After changing BvS some, they didnt like the direction he was taking for Justice League and fired him and brought in Whedon who completely fucked the movie imo. You knew what Scenes snyder and whedon did and it was a frankenstein of a movie. Steppenwolf looked pretty cheesy and the behind the scenes shit really seemed to have a negative effect on the chemistry between everyone.

I loved Snyders vision, but i did have complaints about his casting choices. Im not crazy about Mamoa's acting skills and this weird biker version of Aquaman is unlike anything ive seen in the comics. I know there was a period of time where Aquaman had a beard and the spear for a hand so maybe they are just drawing inspiration from that. Ezra Miller i was initially excited for to be the Flash, but after Justice League, I'm not too crazy about it. Maybe it was the writing, maybe its him, ill give the character a chance to develop though. Cavill as superman, i loved. You saw him develop into the boy scout type of superman by the time he was revived in Justice League. He knew his place and what he had to do. Affleck i love as batman, but i hate they joke making Batman from Justice League. Gadot as Wonder Woman is great. Fisher for Cyborg is ok. Eisenberg for Lex Luthor im not too crazy about, but it seems like hes turning more into that Cocky Lex we all know from the comics by the time Justice League was over, much like the other characters, i think if we got to see them develop properly over the trilogy of films Snyder was supposed to make, we would appreciate everyone in their roles a bit more.

A lot of people hated it, but i LOVED the dark feeling of the DCEU. It made it different from Marvel. Wasnt throwing out one liners all the damn time trying to get a laugh. The world was in danger and they took it seriously and had a few moments you could laugh at, but didnt make it a huge part of the movie like Marvel does. Once whedon got on Justice League he tried making it into a Marvel movie and it just didnt feel right. The jokes were god awful for the most part. I dont know if its James Wan or the Studio making him do a jokey type of aquaman, but its so cringey in the trailers hearing the cast try and make jokes. I do think Aquaman will be a great movie though.

Honestly I wish they would just reboot the DCEU. Rumors are saying we've lost both our Superman and our Batman, two very key characters in the DCEU. To recast them and have them performing with Gadot and the currently casted heroes would just be weird, but if they plan on keeping the other cast members, i think it would be necessary as we NEED Superman and Batman. WB also needs to let the other characters get their shine though as they've done nothing but release Superman and Batman films primarily.

WB Needs to do a DC subdivision like Disney did making "Marvel Studios". Get film directors, producers, writers that are fans of comicbooks much like Kevin Feige and let them do their thing. The last minute story changes from old folks who dont care much for these characters has been pretty devastating to the films and public opinion of DC and it could have been totally avoidable. They will always be the underdog in these films though because Marvel has been doing their connected universe for a solid 5 years before DC started theirs and people will always pick sides instead of supporting both like most of us here do.

I think DC is well on their way to fixing the problems though, just not in the way I would like. It seems like the directors are agreeing to whatever terms the studio is demanding of them. With Aquaman, Justice League, and Shazam you can really tell they lightened up the vibe of these movies to make it more Marvel relatable. I love these characters and most of the stories though and just like with the Marvel films, I will be there the Friday the film is released in theaters regardless of reviews.

They need to do what they do with the animated films. Just standalones that cover great comic moments whether it's solo movies or team ups. They failing to follow a formula they don't have the patience to re produce. I don't understand their need to make it a universe of complete continuity. We only give a fuck because marvel, Kevin feige and co made it work.
WB biggest mistake was not using nolan not wanting darkq knight to be part of a universe to their advantage and trying to follow marvel down an impossible path. They never needed a universe just the great stories they already have.

Needs the same care and magic of the animated films. Stay true to the characters (Batman killing and Super-Man brooding...nope). Actors didn't have chemistry either, changing directors, bad editing jobs and poor atmosphere. The movies just lacked energy and luster outside of WW. The script for Suicide Squad was just horrible and the movie was cheesy and campy. JL was flat and pointess with no build up before. They need to take their time, have a clear vision and be consistent. Actually build the universe.

I'd stick it through and just greenlight good and interesting movies. Period. I'd make Batman and Superman the lynchpins of the universe again. While still keeping the juice in the hands of Aquaman and Wonder Woman.

Just map out a simple plan. Give Cavill and Affleck at the least 2 solid solos each so they could bow out with grace.

I'd let Matt Reeves make his prequel movies but I 'd also hire a filmmaker for modern Batman movies. So Batfleck will get Hush, Under the Hood and a combination of Batman and Son and Batman RIP so that Dick and Damian takeover as the future big screen dynamic duo until the universe reboots or return of Bruce (aka recast) which ever comes first.

Superman I'd have marry Lois. They'd have their son Jon. He becomes Superboy. They could do that in 3 movies with Cavill and Adams and it'll be something fresh. Like a live action Incredibles and this also leads to future Super Sons movies with Damian.

Lastly I'll take like 7 years into getting everything stable then hit the audience with a Crisis movie combining every live action DC adaptation possible in one movie. Meaning Keaton and Batfleck strategizing together. Arrowverse Flash "disappearing" in the crisis etc.

Then reboot just like what happened with the comics post-crisis.

WB is sitting on a goddamn goldmine without a single clue. This is depressing as fuck.

Oh, I know.

He's been an Exc. Producer for every DCEU film other than MoS. The reason this thread even exist.

Why didn't you list those films, instead of some comic books we wrote. ';;lll

because the thread is talking about fixing the dc universe....

geoff saw the need to fix it too... so he stepped down from the ceo role to step into a producing /writer role......to the point he started a production company just to handle DC properties

i'm listing the movies that are under that production company going forward, cuz that's what i thought the thread was about

i listed the comics he wrote, to prove that he has the writing resume to handle the task...

i listed the comics he wrote, to prove that he has the writing resume to handle the task...

All the issues listed was more than just writing.

Furthermore none of it will matter if it's the same WB exc running things, that had them changing and reshooting shit anyway.

its a whole new production company that he runs.....solely for producing dc content the right way

he has more influence at this level than he did as ceo....ain't gonna be no reshoots or exec changes with geoff being the primary produce and writing the screenplay/script...it's essentially him making the movies the way he wants them to be made......they're going to feel like dc comic book movies are supposed to feel.....

we got a taste with wonder woman, but we're really gonna get a true feel with aquaman and shazam

this is what is truly gonna define the universe

look them up....

http://www.madghost.com/

it's as simple as this.......whenever u see mad ghost in the opening credits...expect fire

No he doesn't. He just doing more of the creative side now that he doesn't have to focus on also being CEO.

He could write and produce all the best shit in the world, if WB doesn't like it and wants to change guess what's gonna happen?

The same thing that's been happening since the DCEU started.

Negative.

He has more influence over the finished product now.

Which was the whole point of making the moves he made.

They were made in direct response to the mistakes wb execs have made in the past. By using his own production company he's effectively blocking them from any creative control at all.

You'll see the difference. Like I said, you see mad ghost, you gonna see a good movie

Just watch..... First movie from that production studio that's crap and I throw in the towel myself....

But I'm positive going forward DC movies will be the quality they're supposed to be
