Dallas Officer Amber Guyger's trial for the murder of Botham Shem Jean begins (FOUND GUILTY)

Sorry it takes more than 40 mins for me to check this website. I actually have shit to do during the day...as for what I said i never said Malcolm advocated turning the other cheek. I said their views were becoming more aligned with each other as in Martin openly regretted portions of his non violent stance and Malcolm realized being as radical as he was also needed some change. So if you want yo discuss what was actually said and not some shit you misinterpreted I'm all for it.

Fuck that. Why folks so extreme. You can not like somebody and still live a healthy regular life. Like people got this idea that disliking someone is all encompassing effort.

Dislike and hate are 2 very different things. Majority of people are around somebody they dislike everyday ie coworkers. Hate is something way different.

So in other words you didn't know what the fuck you were talking about. Ok gotcha

So you’re saying to hate somebody it requires real energy? I don’t think it does. To do something hateful takes effort but hate ain’t some gnawing pain

We shouldnt forgive- No.not when the same group of ppl keep doing the same shit

So you're saying that no black person should ever forgive any white person for anything because other white people are still doing bad shit? Does that really make sense to you?

Protesting - I said fine but what has come of it? That was a question

Almost everything that blacks have accomplished in this country in the fight for rights and equality have come as a result of protesting. If you're talking about recent stuff, well the introduction of body cams and some other policy changes came pretty much directly because of the BLM protests. You could probably make the argument that the few cops that have been convicted or fired only received those punishments because of the attention brought by the protests.

Changing the system within - Yeah that black judge sure changed shit. Black faces have to be held accountable.

lol Obviously, it can't just be any black person. It has to be a black person that is down for the cause. No one expects Sherriff Clarke to make changes to the justice system to help black people.

. We shouldn't work to build up our own communities and gain more independence from the corrupt society. - I aint ever said no dumb shit like that. If anything Im always saying thats what we need more than anything.

No you didn't say that, but you were basically making the argument that since our problems haven't been fixed that the shit that's being done is useless. I'm pointing out the fact that people are doing that right now so by your argument it's a pointless endeavor.

As far as leading anything, yall niggas always assume somebody isnt doing something. I give time, money and physical protection to my community and ppl. I done been the only person to show up at career day to encourage our little ones. I done been one of unfortunately very few black men to show up at a local townhall to speak up for our women. Its plenty out here not doing shit. I aint one of em tho.

Bruh, you're proving my point. There are black people doing most if not all that shit you metioned every day. I tutor and mentor kids. I got to county council meetings to push those fools to do things that actually benefit our community. I volunteer at food drives for homeless people and broken families. You're saying that people on here act like somebody isn't doing something, but your whole argument seems to be that black people don't do anything but forgive. Can't you see the irony in that?

It's all good though man. Respect for what you do. Keep it up.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation, a pro-atheist advocacy group, filed a complaint on Thursday with the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct objecting to “proselytizing actions” that “overstepped judicial authority,” after Judge Tammy Kemp handed a Bible to convicted former police officer Amber Guyger in the moments after the trial had concluded.

Guyger was sentenced Wednesday to ten years in prison for the murder of her downstairs neighbor Botham Jean, a 26-year-old black accountant who Guyger shot in his own apartment after mistaking him for an intruder in her own.

In the moments after the trial, Jean’s younger brother gave a powerful witness impact statement in which he forgave Guyger and called her to “give your life to Christ.” The two then embraced in an emotional moment.

NR's afternoon roundup of the day's best commentary & must-read analysis.

After the statement, Kemp met with both Jean’s family and Guyger. She gave the former Dallas police officer her Bible, telling her “this is your job for the next month. Right here . . . He has a purpose for you. This will strengthen you. You just need a tiny mustard seed of faith. You start with this.” The two then embraced as Kemp told Guyger, “You haven’t done as much as you think you have, and you can be forgiven. You did something bad in one moment in time. What you do now matters.”

“We understand that it was an emotional moment, particularly when the victim’s brother, Brandt Jean, publicly forgave and hugged Guyger,” Freedom from Religion’s letter reads. “ . . . But here, compassion crossed the line into coercion. And there can be few relationships more coercive than a sentencing judge in a criminal trial and a citizen accused and convicted of a crime.”

The organization admits that it does not know whether or not Guyger is Christian, but claims that “the gesture would still have been inappropriate and unconstitutional because Judge Kemp was acting in her official governmental capacity.” Referencing the Establishment Clause, Don Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor, the co-presidents of the group who penned the letter, explain that “it violates a vital constitutional principle for a sitting judge to promote personal religious beliefs while acting in her official capacity.”

“Judge Kemp transmitted her personal religious beliefs as a state official in an official proceeding of the gravest nature, a setting that imposed on everyone in the courtroom: attorneys, staff, family members and the convicted,” they state.

The announcement is not the first controversy to surface in the fallout after the trial. After the sentencing on Wednesday, Jean’s mother addressed the media and stated “That ten years in prison is for reflection and for her to change her life. But there is much more to be done by the city of Dallas. The corruption we saw must stop.” Later that night, The Dallas Morning News revealed the Dallas police department will undergo an internal review of incidents made public during the trial. On Friday, Dallas church leaders and community activists are expected to call on the Justice Department to examine policing practices in the city.

I dont understand why mfers acting like there is only one right answer.

The truth is Christianity is every @VIBE says it is, especially for white people and at the same time that same Christianity in America has been used to brainwash and keep black people subserviant.

You cant expect a black person who is carrying the scars of 400 years of opression to look at Christianity the same way a white person does.

There is undeniable historical proof that Christianity was knowing and planfully used to brain wash African slaves and at this point its so ingrained that even if there is not a concentrated effort to use Christianity to keep black people subserviant its still happening.

No one reply to me with what Christian teachings actually mean either. None of that matter. Lets look at how its actually been used and being used and not how it should be used.

And about Bothams family, I dont agree with any of the things they said and did but what people need to realize is not everyone is concerned with racism and being an activist for change.

Clearly this family didnt care enough about racism and fighting for change before Botham got killed and when he did they coped with it the only way they knew how without a care for fighting racism.

I found his mothers message to be super confusing. This is what she said at the memorial service at their church.
Allison also addressed her son Brandt Jean’s controversial public show of forgiveness to Amber Guyger, calling his decision “remarkable” but reminding the crowd of how much work there was ahead to hold Dallas police accountable, specifically calling out problems with the investigation revealed at the trial.
“I don’t want the community to be mistaken by what [happened] in the courtroom,” she said, according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. “Forgiveness for us as Christians is a healing for us, but as my husband said, there are consequences. It does not mean that everything else we have suffered has to go unnoticed. We’re leaving Dallas this week, but you all must live in Dallas and you all must try to make Dallas a better place.”

From NBC DFW:
“What you saw and what you heard in the courtroom really showed what your system is and you must seek to do something about it,” she said. “You saw a contaminated crime scene, you saw deletion of evidence by persons in high offices. You saw turning off of body cams and saw cameras in the vehicles.
“You saw investigations that were marred with corruption and throughout the trial what I kept saying to myself is, ‘Botham was a child of God and we know he did not deserve what he got.’ The most hurtful part is for me that even after he was shot, he was left to die.
“There are many Christians who asked me if I would forgive Amber. I will leave my forgiveness for Amber to myself. God knows my heart,” she said. “What I want you to do for us, for the family is to support the legacy of Botham. We have created the foundation not to help us, but to help the underprivileged, the underserved, the vulnerable, the voiceless. So I ask you to support the Botham Jean Foundation. I would love to help someone who Botham would have wanted to help.”
She thanked the church for being for her family throughout the trial and asked them to be alert. The service ended with one of Botham’s favorite songs.
“While we walk as Christians, we still have a responsibility to show that our city does what is right,” she said.

They're mad because it doesnt matter how many times white people are forgiven they keep doing the same shit, so forgiveness isnt working. Did you watch the video Stringerbell posted?

He posted like 6...i watched the 2nd one. Rolands point seems to be how white ppl use and weaponize forgiveness against racial justice. Which is true and bad but doesnt really explain why ppl are really mad at the kid because he hugged HIS brothers killer.

As far as what you gave as a reason...theres so many fallacies there i dont even to start

I did assume that's why they're mad but I do agree with forgiving people doesnt mean they will now stop doing wrong things towards you. People stop hurting others when they feel remorse and guilt for what they've done not because they were forgiven.
