Boycott the Olympics

Been doing some reading on this swim cap thing. It isn't an issue.

Black female swimmers with a lot of hair can make a choice: let your hair get wet and deal with it or not compete.

Plus, the drag of the swim cap holding down a large head of hair has to cost a few seconds, which in top-level competition is a big difference.

Not everything can be inclusive. Not seeing how this is a 'race' thing.

No sympathy for this chick. It's BS that weed can get you banned from the games since, as far I know, it doesn't enhance performance. That said, they didn't just spring this rule on her. She knew the deal. She chose to put getting high over going to the Olympics. That's on her. People really have to learn self control. I know she's young, but she's old enough to be able to prioritize accomplishing her dream over getting high. I hope she bounces back and still achieves all her goals.

I feel like I'm missing something with these swim caps, none of those soul caps look aquadynamic. Why would a top athlete even want to wear one? Why not just braid your hair and put on a regular cap?

I was surprised the Olympic committee didn't accept them. They seem like a liability for the very reason you stated. Swimming is one of those sports where every little factor matters. I think the Olympics should allow caps that fit natural black hair, and I believe they eventually will if and when more black people with big hair start competing as swimmers. That said, I'm pretty sure competitors that get to that level won't be trying to have something big like that on their head when they are trying to shave tenths of a second off their times.

Entitlement. If the world doesn't bow to their demands, it's a problem.

They do allow caps that fit natural black hair. They rejected this company's application because they felt there are already products on the market that have been approved by the committee. See below. This is a non-issue.

DOes that really fit natural black hair though? Just because something fits long string white hair doesn't mean it will fit a black chick with a fro.

You know, these thots have no problem putting on these lace-front wigs and patting their hair down, but for an actual swimming competition, they got a million excuses.

To answer your question, yes, the silicone is flexible and secure on the head. Unless you got dreads like Erykah Badu, in which case you shouldn't be trying to swim competitively. The drag of your hair in the water won't help you win any races. That's what these thots are crying about.

This isn't even remotely aerodynamic in water:

But of course, they cry about 'The Man' holding them back, when it's actually your hair:

You telling me these caps are going to help you WIN?

More surface area in the water = more drag = not winning

Pick your battles wisely...

Like I said, I agree with your point about the caps and the hairstyles not being conducive.

I'm not really sure why you keep referring to these women as thots, particularly Simone, whose struggles are likely genuine.

Would you prefer I call them 'ladies'? Who cares? I don't know them and they don't know me.

People are too soft nowadays.

Yeah if ur gonna style a giant flotation device on ur head then cry about not being able to wear a detrimentally voluminous swim cap to keep it all in ur either not serious in full about swimming performance (in that u got ur priorities in the wrong places) or ur just plain ignorant.

Let's get real.. The Olympic committee wants records broken. It progresses the sport and makes a lot of people a lot of money. U been hearing about these so called "super spikes" Nike's developed that have been causing records to fall? Do u think athletes and business alike want to fall back on an inferior shoes going forward?

For records to be broken, u do whatever is conducive to bringing times down. And yeah, we're dealing with seconds to mere hundredths of a second. Wear ur hair shorter or braid it like female combat sports athletes do.

One person sees racism, another can far more rationally understand that we're genetically blessed for success in sports and don't need counterproductive fashion statement trends holding black athletes back. Quit the fake outrage.

I've seen several articles talking about 'weed doesn't make you fast'. Yet, literally no one from the Olympics has stated that. There are two issues here. The legalization of weed is one. Following the rules is another. I guess I could add another one, which is people are ignorant. I would bet money a large majority (<51%) of people think every business in Colorado has to allow their employees to have weed in their system even while at work.

We can't expect an international body to adhere to our (U.S.) regulations. Someone mentioned earlier that her friends, family, and trainers failed her. There are so many other things she could have done to relieve stress besides smoking weed, knowing the intensive testing athletes are subjected to. At least she owned up to her mistake.
