Active shooter at Texas Robb Elementary school with 19 kids and 2 Adults dead, 18 year old shooter killed

So you brought up maneuverability, which doesn’t matter when you’re gunning down innocent people. You brought up the ability to pierce body armor, which doesn’t matter in these cases either. And you brought up accuracy, which was to negate my point so I defer the point on that one. But even so, accuracy isn’t that big of a factor either when someone is shooting kids at point blank range.

So why do these mass shooters recently tend to choose an assault weapon in the majority of mass shooting cases if it offers no benefit over using a handgun? Because that’s what you are proposing here. Is it because they are more widely available? Is it the easiest to use? Is it the standard magazine size?

Whatever the reason, this is what they’re choosing so they see some benefit over a handgun. So why not take away that choice and force them to do something they may not be as comfortable with if they still choose to do these things?

As I said a time or two earlier, the majority of mass shootings, including the worst school shooting in American history, used HANDGUNS to the tune of 77 percent of all mass shootings from 1982 through May 2022.

So when we drafted laws against drunk driving, did we ban cars or alcohol??? 'cause, you know, those were the "instruments used" to mow down innocent people.
Bruh, the straw man argument of cars and alcohol?

Cars serve another purpose other than just killing. Guns were designed to kill and that’s it. And operating guns aren’t nearly as regulated as operating cars. That’s just a weak argument and you should steer clear of using this in the future.

Semi-automatic rifles were used in 4 of the 5 deadliest mass shootings ever. So while there were more incidents using handguns, when a semi-automatic rifle is used more people die per incident.

Now what?

Have not been able to find a chart for that
Don't know if it's accurate but it's as close to 2020

Yea the pandemic years can’t really be compared to the years prior, but I am curious about 2015-2019

You do understand that 77% of all mass shootings is a far greater number.

But, please, continue to harp on these mythical "assault rifles" when far more handguns are used.

Why are “AR’s” the chosen tool?

intimidation factor.
What if I told y’all an AR ain’t shit but a pistol with a buttstock and long barrel…

y’all confused performance with intimidation

There's a reason the Marines called them "poodle shooters" back in Vietnam.

plus, it's just popular. It's in movies, tv shows, vidya games, music videos, etc.

jus seen sumn that said it's a lil over 80 million gun owners & between military, police & civilians over 400 million guns

So again, if we can’t stop all, stop none.

I’d think gun advocates would want to bring down the number of mass shootings, particularly school shootings, by any means necessary. One day these children that have to deal with active shooter drills and constant fear of death will run the country. What do you think they are going to do? People will be lucky to own a handgun at that point.

I’m done with this argument for now. Luckily people who don’t want any gun control are in the minority. Their only saving grace is that the NRA still holds power over the Republicans.

We do, but not in the knee-jerk way y'all want. The most sensible thing is to stop people deemed to be mentally ill from getting their hands on a gun because they're the people committing these shootings.

That's true, and that should be done.

However, it's a fact that the discussion will always come up about what level of armament should really be allowed. Right now, the Uvalde police are basically using the fact that dude had an AR as their excuse for not going in. They felt underarmed and didn't want to take the risk. Now, to be clear, they are some bitches for that, and all of them should be fired. That said, police are tasked with protecting the public. Should there ever be a time when a private citizen can be more well armed than the people that are supposed to protect the public from threats.

Shit is crazy. The Army is in the process of getting a new rifle that's much more capable than what they currently use. The civilian version of the weapon will be up for sale before the Army gets theirs. In other words, in this country, we have a system where the military pays for the development of weapons, and the weapon makers contract in a way that allows them to dumb down those weapons a little and put them in the hands of the general public BEFORE the military even gets them. Doesn't that strike you as a little crazy.

At this point we need a knee-jerk way because lives are at stake. Nothing else has worked, period. But y’all still don’t even want to try anything to do with restrictions on guns.

Either way, it is what it is. There can be no middle ground I guess.
