People are always disingenuous when it comes to the discussion of non-whites owning slaves. Yes, it happened. Pretty much every culture on Earth had some form of slavery or forced work. However, very very few of those systems were anything like American style chattel slavery. Some tribes of Native Americans had slaves, but they didn't treat those people like pack animals. They were essentially indentured servants. I'm not saying that's a good thing, but there is a big different between being treated as a second class citizen that has to work off a debt and being treated the same as ox or donkey.
