D'Antoni has sights on 3 more years minimum

The Houston Rockets and coach Mike D'Antoni have had preliminary discussions on the framework of a contract extension that would keep the two-time NBA Coach of the Year from entering the final year of his deal.

"I've let (GM) Daryl (Morey) and (owner) Tilman (Fertitta) know that I'm energized to keep coaching --- and believe that I can continue to do this at a high-level for at least another three years," D'Antoni, 68, told ESPN on Sunday night.

"I want be part of a championship here."

It is unclear how significant of a commitment that the Rockets are willing to make to D'Antoni, who told ESPN that he prefers to avoid entering the final year of his contract in 2019-20 without an extension. D'Antoni is entering the final year of his original four-year contract. He's paid in the $4M annual range, which is less than most of the league's elite coaches are making in the marketplace.

Fertitta called the Rockets loss in the Western Conference semifinals to the Golden State Warriors, "unacceptable." Top assistant Jeff Bzdelik -- who was talked out of retirement in November to address the team's defense -- was informed by management on Sunday that he wouldn't offered a new contract. The Rockets defense excelled under Bzdelik. More changes could be made to D'Antoni's staff, league sources said.

D'Antoni has averaged 58 victories a year in his three seasons with the Rockets, including four playoff series victories and a trip to Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals. The Golden State Warriors eliminated the Rockets in the past two seasons, including a six-game victory in the conference semifinals this month.

"He's not a lame duck to me." Fertitta told the Houston Chronicle last week. "That's just a media term. We're more concerned with making our team better next year. Mike will be here. I like Mike. I think he's a very good coach. Players like playing for him.

"I keep being told, free agents want to know who the owner is and they want to know who the coach is," Fertitta said. "Mike and I do well together. Hopefully, we'll continue to win and Mike will be here for a long time."

The Chicago Bulls are reportedly interested in Lonzo Ball, according to K.C. Johnson.

The Bulls are looking add a point guard this offseason. The team envisions Ball's pass-first style as the key to unlocking Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., and Zach LaVine's talents.

Outside of a trade, the Bulls are said to be interested in a group of restricted free-agent point guards. They also sense that they can get Malcolm Brogdon with the right offer.

this what I'm talking bout go get lonzo(1st choice, brogdon 2nd,bev 3rd) to make the young core complete, lonzo and lavine compliment each other

laker fans lets talk turkey

Thats a good look. A pass first pg who is an elite playmaker and an elite defender is exactly what yall need.

And now that he seems to told his pops to stfu and got off that BBB shit, theres no reason not to do it from the Bulls point of view.

Who would yall trade though?

The bold is why he remains a Laker.

the 7th pick, lakers get 5-6 mil more in cap space after july 1st and have another pick to offer for ad,beal or whoever they try to acquire

lonzo injury prone(my only concern) and hasn't shown he can shoot in the nba (outside small samples) so they can't expect that much value in return and he has 2 years left on his rookie contract

The only way I see the Lakers doing this if they really think they got a shot at AD.

Since Lonzo and his camp already said they dont wont resign in NO that hurts the trade package, so if you the Lakers and you can flip Lonzo for the 7th pick and tell NO they can get Ingram, Kuz, the 4th and 7th pick, that makes the trade package much better than having Lonzo in it for NO.

i think the front office shift is really gonna end up paying dividends and people that think this will be the old Pelicans FO gonna be pissed they didnt take the chance to be apart of the new direction

who saying all of that tho?

Dont put words into my mouth

but dont try to cheapen the hiring either when there were a rack of teams trying to get him back to being a GM in the league

i was talking mainly about the culture shift throughout the entire organization

and just like you can point out those draft picks, you should also point out the trades and other FA acquisitions that he brought to the team

Bruh all I can say is this.

AD on the last year of his contract isnt worth Ingram, Kuz, the 4th pick and Lonzo/7th pick from the Lakers, or Knox, Robinson, Frank, the 3rd pick and a future first rounder from the Knicks.

Both team are in a very specific position where they gonna be willing to give up all that though so yall gonna make a killing.

9 out 10 times those are terrible trades. If the Knicks make that trade without signing 2 stars im giving up on the NBA and getting myself into the MLS or Tennis or someshit.

i think they legit want to try to bring him back, or if they arent, its a great job of lip service

maybe they're already lining up he suitors to trade him to, which is also fine

if AD is hellbent on leaving, take the best deal available

Zo not going anywhere.

From what I hear the FO. Basketball side + Jeannie has him as the #1 priority in terms of the young core. Hence all the JKidd foolishness

Whatever makes you feel better

David Griffin was a great GM while he was here in Cleveland. As soon as they gave him the title of GM he made shit happen, before we even got LeBron back he was putting the team in position to succeed. Only thing I disliked about his run here were the bad contracts (TT and JR), but it’s kind of hard to blame him for that because Bron had the organization in a tough spot as far as wanting to keep him happy.
