“Housing is a right” demystifying buying the block & the immediate housing crisis

For conversation s sake, if you had a product wouldn’t you want to get top dollars for it?

That's the thing though: You CAN get good money for your rentals as long as it's up to snuff for Section 8. Lotta low income folks have Section 8 rental assistance from the government, that's guaranteed rent money every month while they're living there. The only issue you may run into is that you're dealing with the government and all the paperwork that doing so entails.

But where has this happened??? That's the million dollar question. If you can't point to an area where Black folks have bought up the homes and businesses and then drove out the lower income Black folks, then this is all theoretical hype. Sure you may not like the idea of it happening, but unless it has actually happened what are you really talking about?

It is though. I already named DC. Atlanta is another city I've seen many natives say is having the prices of apartments and homes being driven up because of the influx of people moving there and real estate and property management companies charging more money for areas that were very much affordable as recent as 5 years ago

Anybody that has a problem with the reason he denied him is a fool.

But it shouldn’t be broadcasted which is the foolish on his part.

My pops have one his tenants a lower rent cost and helped them out during the hard times over the last year so they didn’t have to come out their pockets to pay and in return they destroyed his shit. Now he gotta drop almost 10K to fix the damage they did In less than two years.

I’m saying that to say this, it’s your shit and if you feel this shit ain’t gon work the way you want it, don’t rent to that person.

Also, don’t be bitch and post about it.

Bruh...my dad next door neighbor literally had to gut his house like 3...maybe 4 times. This muthafucca rented to...

- A group of drug dealers...house got raided twice

- A couple of crackheads...they demolished the inside of the house. Broke in our fuccin house while me and my dad was asleep, and stole his truck.

- A couple wit 3 kids...who turned out to be drug dealers themselves. Even had their 2 sons selling. Ended up hauling azzz and leaving everything behind. Apparently police showed up at the house across the street from them, so they go spooked and bounced. Lol!

Each time the owner had to renovate the house. Gutted everything. After the last couple...he decided to renovate one last time, then put it in on market to sell it. I know he was taking losses renting it out. Smh.

This is why I would NEVER rent. I rather flip a house.

But are BLACK folks owning those properties???

At this point we should all know about the gentrification of DC's historically Black neighborhoods, but that ain't happening because of Black property owners. Same for the ATL, in fact Atlanta is known for having one of the lowest rates of Black home ownership! Despite what you may think is going on in the ATL, that's YT doing all that shit.

why dont you research it? this isnt my first time speaking on this:

i went in depth in this thread.

youre fucking annoying dawg.

the whole “you refuse to engage me so you must dont have any answers” is nuts.

when in actuality im not engaging with you because your chasing me around abw. like wtf
You flatter yourself thinking I keep up with everything you say. I’m not cross referencing you through multiple threads. Just answer the damn question in the thread where the topic is brought up and asked. It’s really not that hard if you have good reasoning. You wasted more characters dodging than you would have by just answering the question.

So again, I’m not reading an entire thread to get your take on this. Either give your alternative to private ownership or just admit you have nothing and keep it moving.

Though I would probably follow this path for my people, I can also acknowledge there’s a huge gap in income from Section 8 rent and the type of rent these gentrified areas pull in.

So there’s no convincing someone that Section 8 money is comparable to gentrified neighborhood money.

Yeah they are. Alot of Black folks have moved here and/or bought property here heavy the past decade plus. My uncle is a real estate agent and 95% of his clients are Black. I work for a property management company as well and trust when I say in DC while there are white folks who are still coming in a good portion of people buying homes and property here are Black folks who just came into some money and want to invest in something as a secondary source of income.

Ok I read the page linked, and you have no alternative. And everybody in there basically felt like I do now, that you have nothing. You saw a talking point that equated capitalistic private ownership = slavery/racism and didn’t go further to see what better alternative was proposed.

Props for dropping the thread. Love these typa discussions.
Did you see an alternative to capitalistic private ownership proposed? Or was it just it’s wrong and that’s it?

You know what, it’s all good. It’s not fair for me to expect you to answer that just because I’m not willing to read through it.

I didn't get thru the whole thread yet but just like I'm all about abolishing this two party system in america, I don't have the answers, but it damn sure needs to just be talked about more imo.

And just in general I'm into these socialism v capitalism convos. Being I have two parents who left their homeland and families to flee socialism and tell me about shit u never hear in the news or anti capitalists in america never experienced.

But I also know that can make me biased af to a new idea. Bc clearly this capitalism shit isn't working, especially if u aren't white.

So the back n forth itself is important.

That's all well and good, but it still doesn't negate the fact that less than 25% of the real estate in the ATL is Black owned. As for DC, Black folks may be participating, but the gentrification in DC is widely known to be driven by whites. Them new restaurants, coffee shops, and markets popping up are largely white-owned. Black folks ain't flipping apartment buildings into condos nor are they building new shit; that's all white. And Black folks might get in on the action here and there but the overall push to drive low income Black folks out is spearheaded by white money.
