What's The Weirdest Thing Society Accepts As Normal?

Yes. People walk around with a whole wolf they can barely handle while laughing and smiling with friends or talking on the phone. Meanwhile, kids and women are terrified to be around them.

I see this shit routinely on flights. I pray every time I fly that them and their animal aren’t sitting next to me

Since it's election season, I'll say the fact that politicians are allowed to tell blatant lies on each other as part of their campaign. I mean they can say some shit, have it proven false, and still put the same shit out in commercials with no problem. I can't go five minutes without seeing this Angela Alsobrooks ad that uses clips of fake news reports to accuse her of some shit.

How the hell are we ever suppose to have real and fair elections, when the candidates don't even have to tell the truth.

The trick is that they speak in absolutes about issues that are highly nuanced. When you do it that way you are really never 100% wrong despite being mostly wrong. So you can’t really prove the statements false, you can just add context which is far less catchy/appealing compared to the original initial claim.

That's true, but they've drifted to a point where some of the things being said are definitely more wrong than right.

For example, when Trump and Vance say that Biden opened up the border. That's just a lie. They've deported more illegals than Trump did when he was in office.

Yes, but I’m sure you can also cherry pick one specific program that was broadened. That’s what I mean when I say they make sure to not be 100% wrong.

For example, Biden expanded access to CBP One by creating a mobile app where virtually any migrant can make an online appointment to be received and granted asylum. There’s no version of reality where that doesn’t increase immigration, but it’s still only a small part of the story.

That's not opening up the border though. I get the argument you're making, and I don't disagree. However, some shit is just a lie. Facilitating the process for applying for legal immigration is not opening the border the way Trump and Vance are saying. They are literally claiming that he's made it so people can just stream into the U.S. unchecked without resistance. That's just a lie. They've been called out on that lie multiple times, but they keep running with it because they can.

It kinda is…you’re letting more in knowing you are going to also send a ton back. There is enough truth to it that it can’t be disproven.

I'm not sure if you understand what an open border is. It means that there are no measures in place stopping people from migrating in and out of the country. The example you gave is proof that there is a system in place restricting migration into the country. Even if you believe, he's made immigration easier, Biden did not open the border. There's also the fact that Biden pushed for a bill that would have given him the power to completely close the border as in stopping immigration altogether, and the Republicans are the ones that shut the bill down.

So no, there is no truth to the claim. It's just a lie

The restrictions you describe don’t happen at the border, so I think it’s ok to refer to the actual border that way. Yes it’s semantics but ignoring the things we can agree on is part of the problem. The place where the debate should start is when you ask how relevant the “openness” is in the grand scheme.

I'm going to disagree that ignoring things we can agree on is a significant problem. It happens for sure, but it doesn't matter if the discussion is off the rails from the start because participants open it up with blatant lies and disingenuous claims.

You and I can debate immigration, but if you start our debate off claiming I did some shit that I didn't, then most of our debate will just revolve around the false claims and we're not going to accomplish anything.
