Even if you're right. The point is moot. Israel is commiting war crimes. Even if Hamas knew their actions would result in war, they probably didn't know Israel would basically go genocidal and be supported by the US and others.

It seemed like you were saying that Hamas doesn't care about the Palestinians because they committed their attack and didn't have a plan for the response. If agree that some Hamas members don't care about the Palestinians, but I don't think it's fair to act like they should have known shit would get this bad. What the IDF is doing is over the top.
I feel like they don't care bc they are hiding in tunnels while everyone above them is getting bombed.

They're used to bombings and innocent civilians getting hit. It's actually more wild to think they wouldn't expect this.

I dont think theyre just hiding out though. I think I saw a report this week about some IDF soldiers being killed. A handful in comparison to the civilian deaths taking place in all of this mess.
but yeah If hamas is just hiding.. then it begs the question who the hell the IDF is "fighting" in their ground assault and air attacks then doesnt it?

I don't really understand what you think Hamas is supposed to do. They aren't like Hezbollah. They're not an army. They don't really have the ability to respond to what Israel is doing now.
They could give themselves up I guess, but I suspect that wouldn't matter to Israel. They've already leaked plans that they want to actually force all the Palestinians out of Gaza and claim it for Israelis. So honestly, whatever Hamas expected Israel to do after their attack is moot now. Israel has gone of the rails.
My guess is they're relying on allies to join so this can turn into a bigger war. Initial reports stated Hamas claimed Iran backed their Oct 7 attack which Iran denied altho they praised Hamas for it.
They're not an army, they can barely defend themselves, we all understand that, but they went n poked the bear anyway knowing there would be retaliation they don't have an answer for.

Sure, them wanting to stir up a regional conflict isn't out of the realm of possibility.
That said, it all still relies on them knowing that Israel would bomb Gaza indiscriminately for 3 weeks with the entire international community standing by and letting it happen. I still don't think Hamas could have known that would happen.

They claim they are targeted indiscriminately on a daily basis on more isolated occasions.
For them to invade and slaughter civilians, take hostages, they would have to know it would start a war.
And in a war with a country u trade bombings with on the regular (relatively), you would have to know they would happen more frequently and seriously lol.
I think they were counting on Israel to do exactly what they are doing.
I agree that they probably didn't expect the whole international community to stand by, as they are probably hoping for some ally support any day now.

Ever since Netanyahu got elected again he's aligned himself with extremists.
He's even tried to get rid of the Supreme Court.
Israelis have been protesting this for the past few months.
Basically, Hamas didn't think Israel would go this far because this is the first time they've done it.

True, but you all seem to be missing the point. It's not just about Israel. It's about the rest of the world too. Israel is committing blatant war crime. The UN has already called them out on it. I don't think Hamas knew that Israel would be able to run rampant to the extent they have with little to no pushback from major powers.
I don't think some people here are understanding how bad it actually is. The IDF has leveled more than 40% of Gaza. That article I posted said that they've killed more children in 3 weeks than have died annually in all other armed conflicts since 2019. That's insane. The fact that both of those things are true and we still have official statements coming out of the US unequivocally supporting Israel is mindboggling. I think the people in our government are shit right now, and even I'm surprised they can fix their mouths to say some of the things they're saying. Biden's approval rankings have tanked and he still has his press secretary comparing people against what Israel is doing to neonazis. Yes, Hamas should have expected Netanyahu to wild out but no should have expected everyone else in the world to allow it to go this far.
