If he does stuff like this, then he has to start meeting with the family members of EVERY American living abroad (and in the U.S.) who receives what we deem to be harsh prison sentences.

He can’t give this case top priority just because it involves an American “celebrity”.

I personally think he should stay outta this.

To be fair he didn't just meet with Griners wife. He met with the wife of another detainee Paul Whelan as well.

I’m guessing he only met with that guy’s family because Biden woulda looked like a total piece of shit if he only met with Griner’s family.

If BG wasn’t locked up, I seriously doubt Biden would have met with Whelan’s family.

Just my speculation.

Biden has dropped the ball on alot of shit...but in this instance given that he's long ago mentioned discussing Whelans release before the Griner situation happened he just may have still done this for the PR look given how bad shit is going. The Griner situation just makes it a 2 for 1.

Substantial meaning easing of sanctions and/or not giving any more money/weapons to Ukraine.


Based on what's been reported, I don't see any of that happening.

Yep, and I'm betting they'll make a point of following the rules. Griner is getting fucked over for real, but it's weird that the media is so committed to acting like this was unavoidable. She know what she did, and others now know exactly what not to do.

Right? Unless you still believe Russia framed her, there's no real reason to be nervous about ending up like her. I personally still wouldn't go, but I get them going.

Yeah, I believe it was one of those things where people didn't believe until they saw. Like everyone knows Russia can be a fucked up place, but they didn't really have the evidence until now, so now they know if you go over there, be on your ps and qs.
