MTA ends cash transactions at subway booths

All these updates fucking up progress .... for example these new parking meters back in the days
All u needed was change put it in the meter go on about ur day

Nowadays u gotta type ur license plate in and all kinds of dumb shit ... takes like 10 minutes to pay for parking

youre comparing cities that are vastly different in infrastructure. nyc is much larger and mta is the primary source of transportation for a lot of people.

about 2.3 million ppl ride the train in nyc vs 600,000 or so ppl that ride the train in dc.

mta should understand they are servicing a lot of people, comprised of various incomes and socioeconomic backgrounds.

the whole point should be making shit easier for ALL commuters.

why yall wish to debate basic humanity is beyond me.

It's not a humanity issue. It's a logistics issue. You're claiming that the system in place wouldn't serve lower socio economic citizens. I'm telling you that a similar system in DC already does. The only clear difference you've outlined between the two systems is that the NYC system has to serve a much higher capacity than the DC system. That doesn't mean what DC does wouldn't work for NYC. It just means that NYC would have to implement the system in a way that will accommodate the higher throughput.

I could be completely misunderstanding what you believe the problem actually is, but if we're talking about people having to slip money into machines to keep their cards funded vs just being able to give money to gate keepers, that's not the classist crisis you're trying to make it out to be. The one thing I would say is that if getting cards is a problem then the MTA could give out free cards to poor people rather than requiring everyone to buy them.

Lmao once in a while I take the train..., I put cash in the machine and get my ticket

Not having a debit card is great for financial discipline
Ok Elzo for ordinary citizens they have a card in some shape or form so they can use it for the subway

race queen of the bums so she wants to save them so they take the train to go pace back and forth while talking mad loud

blah blah blah

live in nyc for a year or better and then come talk to me about logistics and convenience

U don’t know a nigga who had to sleep on the train when things got rough?

DCs metro line is probably barring or making it extremely difficult for certain demographics as well

just because it works for YOU doesnt mean it works for the whole

I'm not talking about what works for me. I'm talking about poor and homeless people. I work with both through volunteer efforts and most of the people we serve use the Metro system frequently if not exclusively. In fact, the system works so well that part of the reason they have trouble getting buy-in to expand it is because all the people with money get scared that Metro expansion will give poor and homeless people access to their communities.

so if i research wmata (i already know the answer) all im going to read is how wonderful the metro is and how it serves all communities, right?

Assuming that you are working with the same data that they are that likely says most people use the kiosks and the percentage of sales at the actual booths with people are dropping yearly...

How would you propose this situation be fixed then Race? How would you handle it if you were in charge?
you keep stressing this point thinking it's possible.

some people want more cops on trains, some people want less. some people want more kiosks, some people want more booth ops. some people want better timetables for the trains, some people are ok with it now. some people want cleaner subway cars, some people don't give a shit. some people want more of a particular train, some want more of another train. some want more trains to go to certain parts of the boroughs, some think they go far enough. some want more trains at certain hours, some want less trains at certain hours.

what is this magical solution you have that'll make "ALL commuters" happy? AND have you pitched this solution to the NYC MTA?

Wmata is battling with issues of low ridership. Compared to the buses, the subway has dropped dramatically in ridership due to the pandemic. They are trying to close many stations with the least amount of riders. Some people are against that since it impacts their commute and community. Finding another station for some would be extremely difficult to where they might not even bother with riding the subway anymore. If they cant get funding for their 2022 budget, alot of stations and bus routes will be closed.

Then there is the ride fare increase to try and make up for loses.

Wmata has not had issues with people getting cards since this has been around for years. At least I havent heard of it from the years I have been riding. I could be wrong.

I understand that NYC is different and it will take time for that roll out to work. Change is always slow.
