Sometimes I wear my durag in public to keep my waves right IDGAF.

same, last time I had rows a few years ago. You just gotta know when the time's right and accept that ur gonna appear a certain way to ppl. Mfs like me dgaf about that, to an extent of course. Like I'm not gonna show up to a job interview with a durag on.

Cuz imo , no single piece of clothing or accessory makes a person look more hood than a durag. And that goes for any race rocking it. That's part of its appeal, beyond its practicality.

Yall not fina tell me if you and your girl was going to buffalo wild wings, you'd tell her to change if she was dressed like this

Sometimes appearance matters, other times it dont. Or rather, appearance matters less in some situations than others. Sometimes certain articles of clothing can be fashionable, other times they can't.

Also....male leisure wear is not judged as harshly as female leisure wear. Nobody has ever wrote a dissertation or "started a discussion" on Jim Jones dusty ass straight backs. But women running to the beauty supply store in fuzzy slippers is the downfall of society.

To be real I'm with duwop on this. bonnets can b cute. But it depends on the setting. I get lounging around vibes from bonnets. Like u and ur girl at home just chillin. I guess in that sense they might seem a bit outta place in public.

But jokes aside, i see no problem with it. If ur out shopping at Walmart for instance ur not in a setting that's begging for professionalism or ur best look. That's like "gotta run to the store to get some eggs". It's a quick errand. No one's gotta go putting much thought into that.

1. That’s not a bonnet.

2. Her hair is done.

3. The way she’s wearing that scarf is not being done to protect her her but more of a style/fashion accessory piece.

4. Male leisure wear is tacky in public too.

1. Bonnets/head scarves/wraps/turbans/durags all fall under the same category.

2. As far as we know. It could be unfinished up top which is why she got a durag on to cover it up. I've done that plenty of times.

3. Duh nigga lol. I literally said that in the post.

4. But where's the community outcry over niggas in Nike shorts and flip flops? I see shit about bitches in bonnets and weaves/wigs on a monthly basis.

I wore my durag to Walmart earlier today. I wish a muthafucka would tell me to stop wearing it. Im pretty sure the majority of our “big mamas” wore them bonnets at the store growing up. I’m not telling anyone what to wear. Especially if it’s to fucking Walmart or the corner store. Pajama bottoms to me a different matter but... whatever.

1. They don’t. I mean….they are not all in the same category.

2. It could be but it’s not in this case. I only know this because I know what her hair looks like and I seen her edges. Plus she’s about to play in a game lol.

3. I know.

4. Nike shorts? I don’t see what the big deal is over basketball shorts. They’re shorts.

Flip flops? I don’t think niggas should be wearing flip flops outside of the contraints of their house/yard. Socks or no socks it’s tacky.

Also there is outcry of male leisure wear. It might not be as loud as it is for women but it exists.

But bonnets are different from scarfs. Scarfs are usually laying down hair. Mainly edges. Yes you can still wrap your hair up in a scarf even if you’re not laying it down but you know that’s not what any woman with some sense is doing. At least not any woman who’s not trying to fuck her hair up. Wraps are scarfs with a purpose. If I see a wrap I’m assuming that she is is about to go get her shit done real soon.

But a bonnet is not used to lay your hair down like a scarf or a wrap so it’s not really worn as a necessity right before or after you just got your shit laid down. Bonnets are mainly used to protect your hair primarily when you’re sleep. Yes you can wear scarfs and wraps to bed but it really depends on the style of your hair at that time. I do know that bonnets are most closely associated with sleep and or when your hygiening because you’re more likely to have a bonnet on in the shower than a scarf or wrap so when I see a bonnet out in public I can only assume that you either slept or showered with that on and if you did then it shouldn’t be worn outside.

If you slept or showered in that bonnet (most likely you did) then switch to that scarf or wrap (most likely a scarf) when you leave the house if you absolutely have to cover your shit up.

Scarfs are really designed to be styled and worn out in public. Wraps and bonnets are not.

And the main issue with all of this isn’t so much about the physical appearance of a bonnet. It’s more about the appearance of hygiene it presents and how it’s worn.

It's only recently this shit became "acceptable" tho. I remember a few yrs back some white bitch tried to rebrand durags for white ppl and sell em for damn near $100 and rightfully got dragged for it.

I've seen some cute bonnets. All you gotta do is put a design/pattern on it and make it adjustable so it looks less shower cap-ish.

We're just now at the point where locks and afros are no longer viewed as unprofessional hairstyles in the workplace.

All this shit niggas (male and female) get clowned for will be seen getting sold at Gucci and Versace in 5 yrs. That's why I dont pay no attention to what mfs be saying is tacky and unpresentable. Black girls with long fake nails was an issue til Billie eyelash started doing it now the attitude is different cuz it's fashion.

They are all not the same at all. Some are pieces made to wear as an accessory and serves a purpose to “hold your hair” . A bonnet is not. Well not yet I guess.
