Teo was ending his contract with top rank right after beating what they prolly considered their best star at the time, and going his own direction instead of signing with any of the big promotions.

He was not in the position to negotiate the Haney fight before landing the fight that confirmed the new deal he has with thriller...

You gotta understand whoever that first fight was gonna be on thriller was who was ever available to make a deal without the pressure of a major network or anybody else getting involved that would impact his direct ability to draw.

This is all business at the end of the day. Teo has to prove he's a draw and a star all on his own. He couldn't be fighting anybody that could claim they were the draw.
