  • Louse bites tongue's blood vessels and drinks from them until tongue falls off
  • Parasite then latches on to the tongue stump, effectively replacing the organ

Don Marx, 27, from Cape Town, was fishing near Cape Agulhas when he hooked the six-pound carpenter fish only to discover there was a tongue-eating louse living inside its mouth.

They found that hippo attacks had the highest mortality rate of any animal examined. 86.7 percent of the 30 hippo attacks examined were fatal, compared to 75 percent of the lion attacks and only 32.5 percent of leopard attacks.

It's hard to know how many people are at risk of hippo attack, and thus to calculate the rate at which those people are in fact attacked by hippos, but there's nonetheless plenty of cases of hippos killing or severely injuring humans.

biggest mistake people make when doing safaris etc, is only watching out for the predators. When in fact they’re generally the least threat, it’s the herbivores that will kill you in a heartbeat.

humans have been hunting them forever we’re seen as a threat and if they have young, you’re double fucked.

people think bison and rhinos are cute till they toss your vehicle over and reduce your skeleton to jelly lol.
