If this is what they're trying to do it sounds productive af for society. Also saw some article about Camden NJ where they gave the police dept complete overhaul and focused more on community relations.

That sounds way more promising than knee jerk reaction of assuming every man for himself or business as usual.

So the money they get back from defunding police would be enough to support public schools and support unemployed long term?

Or would taxes have to go up?

For us to end up like Denmark, taxes would go up. That doesnt mean that you make less money though cause you wont have to pay for health care, your kids college, or into unemployment cause that will all be free.

But thats not what defund the police means in the US. Not now atleast. No need to go 0 to 100 overnight.

I think here it means defund the police and use that money on social programs geared towards preventing crime. If a few cities can successfully do that, itll slowly start getting more support and turning into a denmark type system.

Its not the thread for this, but also, the US is much more different from Denmark. With the amount of industry we have, and the fact that we have the biggest, more profitable companies world wide, that if you tax businesses and the rich at a FAIR rate, not high, just fair, you can provide free health care and free schooling plus much more to everyone without raising taxes.
