Black sitcoms ranked (by Naima Cochrane)

Family Matters is the longest running show out of all these shows

should be at the top

Nah

Once they decided to double down on Steve Ur-kel, it was in hospice at that point

The occasional appearance was cool but it was clear the show was running on fumes by the time they introduced Orlando brown as a main stay in the series

I don't even know how that shit ended. I assumed Steve and Laura finally got married?

Something like that the last episode Steve proposes then goes out of space gets lost then come back and they get married but they never show a wedding or nothing

Nobody was watching until Steve showed up, the show was on it's way to getting canceled

No knock for people hyping Family Matters. People loved Urkel and wanted more if him which I get. But the show fell off huge once grams left and they introduced Stephon. It went from comedy-drama to full blown sci-fi.
Shame too cause in earlier episodes they tackled real issues.
Eddie getting racially profiled by those racist cops. Then Carl going check them mofos.

Every show "jumps the shark" at one point. "Family Matters" had longer success than it had failures...

And it wasn't just about the comedy. It showed a good successful chill black family on TV and it touched on all kind of topics as well.

Classic scene. But the average white person in the 90s wasnt tryna see that at 8:30pm on a Friday nite. They rather watch a non threatening, happy go lucky blk family w a blk happy go lucky nerd. Who makes them feel good, thats why they switched it up.

Not just that scene but when they had episode of people getting shot over shoes. Or when Laura wanted to do black history and they spray painted Nigger on the locker.
So i see your point.
