So Ive been following this Pedro Hernandez case, an 18 yr old being held at Rikers island for a crime he didn't commit.
According to 8 witnesses, including the
VICTIM Pedro did not fire a gun on Jun 2015.
In fact, the victim and at least one other witness have all
gone on the record to state that NYPD officers threatened them to name Pedro Hernandez as the shooter.
The district attorney recently offered to release Pedro, giving him time served and five years of probation, if he would simply plead guilty, but
he bravely refused the offer.
Now heres the real kicker:
Because of his academic achievements while incarcerated hes been offered a scholarship to go to college but in order to accept it he has to be out by Sept 1.
His next court date isn't until mid-September — meaning that even if he is acquitted,
he'll still lose his scholarship.
his bail is currently set at 250,000$ and so far ppl have donated (including me) 86,000$ in hopes he will be released in time for school.
This story mirrors what happened to our brother Kalief Browder and it saddens me that there are so many innocent ppl that will live and die behind bars.
