Jay-Z Partnering With The NFL For Social Justice

The only people who think Jay had a hand in the gentrification are those who don't know or care about sports.

He was only ever there for the rebranding of the Nets' franchise. That's why his ownership stake was so small and he didn't think twice about selling it.
In the begging i dont think he owned even 1% & the owner was fighting backlash to get it in Brooklyn. They gave him shares to technically call him an owner & when everything smooth over it was all immediately liquidated. And if my memory is correct, he did it to have rights to have his 40/40 club there or something.

And for those of you wondering what they going to be doing, I believe it was asked in the interview and Goodell pretty much said it in vague corporate talk.

So with social justice at the crux of this union, what will this quest for meaningful social change entail? According to Goodell, the NFL is merely following the lead of its players.
“We support our players in trying to inspire change,” Goodell said during the press conference. “To work with them on criminal justice education and better relationships with law enforcement in our communities. Those are the types of things that our players have identified as areas we need to move forward on.”

To that end, The Root’s Editor-in-Chief Danielle Belton asked about an initiative built around community and policing, to which Goodell responded, “I’ve participated in some of those and they’ve been very effective. What we’ve actually done with Kenny Stills and several [members of the Miami] Dolphins is we went into the Miami community [...] and we had a couple of events. We had dialogues, we shared each other’s perspectives and it was really possible. I think our players want to do that.”

So that basically sounds like the regular NFL event where players go back to their poor neighborhoods, tell kids to stay in school & off drugs. Have them run a few routes to catch a pass, maybe get their face painted, idk. Sounds like more photo ops, but I guess we need to wait and see some more.

They needed Jay z to be doing shit niggas already doing lol? Big ass photo op.

Sad.

This is funny for so any reasons.

So doing the stay in school and stay off drugs so you can be just like me is not a well received thing? Or is it a good thing?
Many athletes get credit for doing exactly what you just said. That and the tax write off donation that hardly help.

As a respected poster....do you think its good for the athletes to do things like this?

Someone in here said map took the money because this could have been dragged out for a longtime.
But the purpose of the kneeling was to highlight injustices. Then it turned into blackballing.
Am I right to say this is where the support began?
So what did he fix in all this out of highlighting what was already known?

He shined light on it. OK, but what was fixed?

He sacrificed his career to bring awareness. OK. But what was fixed?

He then took the money...but what was fixed? Some people say he won. But what did he win? A moral victory that was soiled the moment he took the check.

Because after the check cleared ....what was fixed?

We can hate jayz...no one is wrong for jumping too early with the current state of things to not trust shit.
I get that.

But why is so much other shit over looked?

I was listening to a podcast.....while the guy had valid points about jayz not knowing certain things......its shit I didn't know either.

Are we really placing all this shit solely on him to do right by us?
Reid gets a pass, Colin gets a pass but now we mad?

For some reason I feel like jayz was the next target once he hit Billie status.

I just can't see being mad at only the top step of a ladder. Be mad at the ladder.

Help me understand this if I'm wrong.

I hear what y'all saying about jay....but help me understand how others are not getting the same energy.

Cuz if jays a coon....aren't mostly all athletes (NBA and NFL) that's still playing coons?

Idk why ppl keep bringing up the sb performances. Jay turned em down himself. If all he cared about was sellin out for a check that was his opportunity.

He took it two steps farther and instead of just singing and dancing and accomplishing nothing hes in the boardroom with some say so and assume is gonna get more black ppl in there which may lead to more black ownership which can change the narrative.

Makes no sense to cast him off completely with literally no detail of their plans.

That statement would hold more weight if superbowl performers actually got paid. The NFL doesn't cut checks for the superbowl halftime performers. The NFL stance is the audience we putting you in front of is payment enough.

I'm sticking with my not optimistic wait and see approach.

So I have nothing negative to say about Jay z and his move but I don't trust the NFL for shit.

This is what I mean by jumping to conclusions without knowing info.

You made a huge jump from "they gave him shares" to "to technically call him an owner".

Why would they NEED to call him an owner?

And he sold his stake because he could not be a team owner and a NBA player Manager at the same time.

What is your question?

To those of yall that are against this move let me ask yall an honest question... what is it that you actually want? Like for real...

Are yall mad at Jay for being a perceived hypocrite by working with the NFL after he advised another artist not to?
for not running this by Kaep?

What is it? and how are yall even mad when no real details of this partnership have been released?
You still haven't answered the question tho fam.

You said an entertainer trying to change the system from the inside aint going to work in your opinion.
You said starting our own league isn't realistic.
You reiterated working within the system is a moot point and seemingly criticise Jay for attempting to do so.. but when asked what other solutions may be plausible....... silence.

No one is above criticism.. but what im looking for here is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism... and nobody in this thread who is turning their nose up at Jay for this move has offered an alternative suggestion, solution or proposition... just ridicule
19 pages in and still no real specifics on what the folks that are mad at Jay-Z want SPECIFICALLY, if trying to work the system isn't the move for Hov. No solutions to the issue or anything of real substance other than saying he aint shit and he's a hypocrite.

Speaking of which.. I thought I saw that the reason he was trying to talk Travis Scott out of doing the Super Bowl was so that he wouldn't be playing second fiddle to Maroon 5... nothing to do with what Kaep was trying to do... Any credence to that? If so... doesn't that put bigass hole in yalls argument about him being a hypocrite?

For the wait and see people what do y’all want from this partnership? What you think will happen?

I answered this on page 1 of this thread

Not sure honestly.. I will say i'm more concerned with what the social justice aspects look like.. moreso than the entertainment/ SuperBowl half time show part.

I'm curious to see if the NFL will change it's stance on the anthem and how it treats players that choose to exercise their 1st amendment rights during that whole thing..

Curious to see if the will stop blackballing Kaep as well...

NFL has to see how their stance has been hurting their ratings and bottom line.. Id like to see how far they are willing to go to correct the issue. I'm not expecting much at the moment though

Oh well niggas wanted the nfl to let niggas protest in peace without losing their job or being legally blackballed. But we can’t control who a team signs or trades so hoping for that ain’t doing much. Why we judging Jay Z so hard is the same reason we would judge any super rich person for something like this? People want to know is this legit concern or just a check? And if it’s just a check will what he doing benefit us as a whole? People are skeptical because it’s the NFL and they don’t really change. And yes the Travis Scott thing looks funny.

Now if all that shit happens we will be quiet. But jumping too conclusions on a discussion board ain’t the worst thing

What exactly do you do?

I ask because if you were really a professional at something you probably would never say something so simplistic. Would you say to an electrician... "why the fuck are you just an electrician? you're doing life all wrong" Do you say that shit to a plumber or a teacher or a mathematician?

Or are you just saying some shit that sounds cool on the internet?

Why can't you recognize that it's not normal or ok for a person to be blackballed from their whole profession based on standing up for the idea that unarmed black people shouldn't be murdered in the street for no reason?

This nigga came back with the titan graph edit
