Some of the players are former and current NBA players and the talent level is a step up from most NCAA talent.

It still isn't NBA talent. Its g league level talent if you want to call it anything. Pretty useless competition as well imo. The results rarely have correlation to bearing anything positive in the NBA. Players who destroy competition at NBA summer league more than usually do next to nothing during the regular season of they're even on a NBA roster. Some players who have less than spectacular summer league performances go on to have great regular seasons.
