COMMUNITY Yall are 40: A Challenge Series (Vol 1)

It is more than games. Video games just made it popular. During the covid shutdowns, lots of djs went to twitch to play a set since youtube shuts people down for copyright. My cousin was doing that.

They also have art (people drawing) and sports related stuff

No, video games did not make it popular. The camwhores did. Did y'all forget these threads???

That is incorrect. The gaming community put it on the map. It started out as just a guy streaming his life 24/7. People joined to do similar things. Then the gaming community came along and blew it up.

It's not that I don't understand it, I just don't give a fuck. Being around 40 is the Twitch generation. I was streaming indie films when it was Justin.TV. I personally grew board of that environment and was surprised at how profitable it became to have people watch you do nothing much. I'm not mad at the game, I'm just not impressed. Things like Twitch and YouTube are why the idea of the celebrity is a hollow shell of what it was 20 years ago. Today you can be popular and completely unknown at the same time. I'm glad that they exist as platforms to showcase whatever, but that's all they are. The internet is the biggest mall, and who really cares about the mall anymore.

I've done the whole Twitch thing, even subscribed to a few channels in the early Trump years. A lot of YouTube "creators" have Twitch accounts. The draw for creators is that it's easier to stream some content live than it is to record and upload large files.

Generally though, it's the real-time engagement with creators and other fans. While it started as a platform for live gaming, people do other things on it. Hell, there's a category call "Just Chatting". People talking to each other and the streamer makes for a decent business model.

That said, FOH. There's some real sweet irony about being "in-touch" with one of the most basement dwelling premises EVER. Not knowing what Akademiks is up to is NOT a bad thing. Don't feel bad because you never sat through a 4 Hour stream of someone watching Love Island. You're not gonna understand why a big streamer is big after watching them for two hours. It's just gonna look goofy. Investing too much into it will leave a lot of grass "untouched".

And Two minute ads? Unskippable at that? FOH
