The problem is that when it comes to black men, the exception becomes the norm. The writers from the show are basically justifiying the scene by saying that some queer people gave them some anecdotes about similar circumstances happening to them. If we take that at face value and accept that it does, it's still problematic because these things are never treated as aberrations in the media. Shows like this one continuously portray black men in that light and ends up feeding negative talking points that continuously feed each other.
