You're adding your own shit into what I was saying. At no point did I assume the guy did anything wrong. You guys really have to stop writing your own narrative. I said nothing about the guy at all other than he could have deaded the whole thing by showing his keyfob, and when I realized he did that, I admitted that I was wrong. I said the chick was justified in asking to see the keyfob if he was piggybacking of her coming out of the building. That's it. I didn't say it was ok for her to block the door. I didn't say it was ok for her to follow him. I didn't say he needed to prove his address or identity to her. I didn't say anything he did was wrong or deserving of that treatment. My rental property is an HOA. When we were looking for our new house my wife and I were both like fuck an HOA. Told the realtor I don't care if the house has absolutely everything we want don't show or tell us about any houses with an HOA.

Never again will I live with a HOA. That shit is crazy.

The only problem with that is that if you don't have an HOA in place, there is nothing that pushes neighbors maintain any kind of quality or decorum with their property. That means if they want to have shit thrown all around on their front yard, they can. You might not care about seeing things like that when you come home, however, if you ever want to sell that house, it could be a problem. Ultimately, HOA's exist to protect the property values in the community. You don't really want to be in a neighborhood where your property value drops like 50K because some of your neighbors do a bunch of dumb shit with their property.

You can, but unless its egregious, there isn't much the county or city government can do. If a person moves into your neighborhood next to you and paints their house pink with lime green trim, that shit is dropping your property value. The city can't make them paint their house another color.

We all know nothing is perfect. I choose to deal with the imperfections of not dealing with an HOA is all.
