OPINION Worst Rapper With a Classic Album?

IMO Jeezy has 3 classics

TM101 is a universal classic

TM102 and The Recession are regional classics

If you have to break the term "classic" into sub sections, then it is not really a classic. Could be a great album though. But it is not a classic body of work if you have to say things like " it was a classic album during the summer of 2015".

I was gonna say @Sony Montana aint gonna like your post but he responded before I did, lol.

I hold the same philosophy as AP when it comes to albums.

There are are three types

Universal
Regional
Personal

because there are def albums that are classics in the south, east coast, midwest etc that aint recognized as such outside their region

In my opinion

TM 101 is a universally accepted classic…it meets all the criteria (Sales, impact/influence on genre and lyrical content)

TM 102 and The Recession are universally recognized as great albums…but most southern hip hop fans consider them classics

Thats my line of thinking…its all subjective of course.

I see why you would feel like that…

I feel like its clearly defined enough to not water it down
You’re eliminating the middle class when you divide it up like that

pretty much this tells me if you have a great album rather you telling me it’s not a classic you can just say it’s a regional classic. I’m disregarding personal because that introduces subjectivity

And if you’re going to do all that now you can open the door for Plies having a classic album, Camron having 3 or 4 classic albums, etc

the way I see it, regional classic is I really liked the album and a lot of people around me did too but it’s not good enough to be considered a classic by the majority. And to me that means…it’s not a classic

I think I'd have to agree with Ghetto D. . Great album, sonically it sounds great, but Master P isn't much of a lyricist.

But If I were to make a list of, say 25 albums that defined a generation I'd probably pick Ghetto D as one of them.

As far as Hammer is concerned, I was in high school when Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em dropped. He was popular and they played his videos every day on MTV and BET, but I don't remember anybody saying that he was the illest MC. In fact, we used to sit around the lunch table and argue about who was the best MC. It was basically between Rakim, KRS and LL Cool J. I don't ever remember anybody saying Hammer was even a "good" MC, much less dope but we all watched him go diamond while people like KRS and Rakim were going gold.

I'd say the answer is Ghetto D

The reason I wouldn't pick Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em is because I wouldn't listen to that album now, in 2022, but I wouldn't mind listening to Ghetto D.
