I agree, all subjective. But I feel that is a slippery slope. If one thinks TM101 is universal classic, it meets the criteria of what is required. It is globally accepted. Now, if the other albums wasnt able to get the same acclaim, how is it a classic? Just speaking to jeezy fans.I hold the same philosophy as AP when it comes to albums.
There are are three types
Universal
Regional
Personal
because there are def albums that are classics in the south, east coast, midwest etc that aint recognized as such outside their region
In my opinion
TM 101 is a universally accepted classic…it meets all the criteria (Sales, impact/influence on genre and lyrical content)
TM 102 and The Recession are universally recognized as great albums…but most southern hip hop fans consider them classics
Thats my line of thinking…its all subjective of course.
It was the "what up gangsta" song. First verse on the First song on his first album. That's not even the right album smh
I can see what you mean by the regional…but some folks acting like we saying any and everything coming from a region is a classic to that region…its notI agree, all subjective. "Regional classics" kind of diminishes the artist body of work. It is saying that it wasnt good enough to be globally accepted but people back home will support you regardless if it was good, mediocre, or bad.

perfect example of a regional classic is the Hot Boys 2nd album…Get It How U Live
Nationally it was regarded as a good to great album…in south…ESPECIALLY the gulf coast region…thats a classic album
Thats what I mean by regional classic
