Haven't listened to a horrorcore rap song since the Gravediggaz came out.

Christian rap just didn't seem right to me. Don't recall Jesus and his disciples ever being involved in a cypha while chillin in the hood of Jerusalem.

The way Jesus taught the people in parables and storytelling is very similar to hip hop

I just wish people would stop being disingenuous and acting like these Christian artists lack talent lol

Be honest and say you dont like that the content is influenced by their faith

Unfortunately it's not that they lack talent, it just sounds corny asf most the time. I'm all for it at the church functions where grandma and auntie clapping and hittin the shoulder lean.

Look...I'm old skool. I'm talmbout born & raised in the Baptist church. The era of them older Baptist hymns that got sang in the church. That's what I'm use to and quite frankly...I like.

All this other performanative stuff they got now...naw. When I saw a recent video of Kirk Franklin pop lockin on stage, I knew it was a wrap. Lol! Things have gone beyond the scope of the religion.

I mean i get it. It's reached the youth in ways I never thought it could. It's just ain't my lane. I don't need the glits & glamor and big production to praise the man above. That's why I stay outta that lane.

I can respect that.

But I do urge you to consider your stance.

To pigeon hole or view the message of Christ and worship to “hymns and old school songs” is limiting the God who gave us the gift of creativity in how we worship. I am just as old school bro…but I also love hip hop…so…seeing these talented bros and sisters express thier love for Christ and how it can change lives through a medium I enjoy is dope af to me…and the same standards I have for secular artists i have for these guys. Im not listening to wack music just because the Jesus per min count is high b lol.

we accept and admire that same creativity when it comes to music with a secular or non Christian worldview.

Also I feel you about Kirk. But one thing I have come to understand is although the God we serve is perfect and holy…we are not. Our humanity will still be very present in all things we do.

Its crazy how an artist can rap about murder, fornication and all types of crazy stuff over the same beats, with same rhyme schemes, same melodic properties…and its dope

But talk about Jesus

WACK and CORNY lol

again disingenuous

But I know its deeper than rap

Yeah unfortunately rap and Jesus aint the formula folks running to hear. Shit is a dead end sub genre that only caters to a very small percentage of listeners...Christians who care about rap that speaks to them.

Jesus and anything aint the formula for most people

The message is rejected in whatever form it comes in

But again

Deeper than rap

Probably you have not heard anything besides DC Talk. There are plenty of Christian rap artists that spit bars, talented enough beyond lyrics to be taken seriously and original enough to really stand out. Lacrae is a good example, but he is a little mainstream.
