Yes. St Louis had a nice run 98-2004 with Nelly, Murphy Lee and Chingy. The West Coast had a movement
The South had a movement
I can name a handful of Midwest rappers; Bone Thugs In Harmony, Common, Eminem/D-12/Proof, but they never really had a movement did they?
TechN9Ne has Strange Music and does very well with that imprint. The West Coast had a movement
The South had a movement

I can't believe I forgot about Kanye and Nelly.
But even still, The Midwest seems to have produced the least classics out of the 4 regions.
Agree or disagree?
Because the record labels are in NYC, LA And ATL

We have way more diversity in the Midwest that's probably why. Also, I'd say out of the 4 main regions, The Midwest doesn't have it's own distinct sound.
I would say the fast rap is a Midwest soundThere's some good names on that list that I forgot. But a few of those names are one hit/album wonders.
I'd still maintain that out of The East Coast, The West Coast, The South and The Midwest, The Midwest has produced the least amount of classics.
Also, I'd say out of the 4 main regions, The Midwest doesn't have it's own distinct sound.
OK, so how come, aside from Motown in the 60s and 70s, nobody put a label together and came up with their own sound?
When I say a "movement" I mean;
1. Wu Tang representing Staten Island
2. No Limit representing New Orleans
3. Cash Money representing New Orleans
4. Death Row representing LA
5. Def Jam representing New York
6. Rocafella representing New York
7. Cold Chillin representing New York
Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland (also Cincinatti), along with ST Louis certainly have enough people to start a movement.
I can't think of the last time a label from Chicago came out and released several platinum selling artists.
