The halftime show itself was solid. Not gonna act like it blew me away Kendrick did exactly what I thought he would do. Popular cuts from DAMN and GNX, his joints with SZA. There was some political shit in there but if definitely got overshadowed by the anticipation of Not Like Us. Didn’t expect him to do part of Euphoria that was dope.

This was literally the bow on the gift that was this beef. No more no less. In the level of Super Bowl halftime shows there’s been way better but considering this the first one centered around a rapper it did its job.

I didn't think the show was bad but it really did feel like the entire set was centered around dissing Drake which,

I feel like if you're going to be the first rapper to solo headline the show then it should've felt like a tribute to Kendrick and his total body of work and not an elongated diss about another rapper.

It just felt like the theme was wrap up the beef but why did we need to waste the halftime show on that?

Did he even do a single song from GKMC? Most of the new songs from GNX were Drake subs too plus having Serena there is just more energy being wasted towards Drake.

I'm also not being a hater. Like I said, I didn't think the show was trash but I already see people trying to once again treat people like they're dumb and don't understand rap if we aren't vibing to Kendrick on some you wouldn't understand type shit and I'm sorry but this is the halftime show. You don't need a rap PHD to enjoy the shit.

If Drake was doing this show, he might've spent a few bars going at Kendrick and the rest would've been Drake hits. Drake would've showcased himself and his music. It kind of felt like Kendrick had an opportunity to platform himself and the "culture" but he wasted the majority of the set centering Drake. Jay-Z made it very clear that he would not waste unnecessary energy on beef with people who he felt weren't worth his time. If Kendrick feels as if he's on another level than Drake, why is this beef still being centered so heavily in his music?

I told y'all I wasn't being a hater when I said that NLU was hijacked. The whole set was centered around the beef with Drake including having two of Drake's EX's SZA and Serena on the stage.

Iono, I would rather have came away from this performance not centering this beef and centering Kendrick as an artist.

Part of me actually feels a little sorry for white people. There was a time when they actually made interesting music that could drive something like the Superbowl Halftime. I might be out of touch, but what do they even put out that would fit an event like that? Nobody wants to hear Taylor Swift for a whole Superbowl set.

I get some of what you’re saying. Would I personally liked to see “Swimming Pools”, “Money Trees” or “Backseat Freestyle” performed? Hell yea. At the same time tho literally only two songs that had direct shit to do with Drake was performed so I dunno what more people want. I didn’t see it as a whole performance dedicated to Drake but I got a feeling there’s people who were gonna form that opinion no matter what other songs he would have done.

What’s done is done. At this point we all talking over a dead body like the dudes that hit Joe Pesci towards the end of Goodfellas.

But if this is the takeaway then the halftime show missed the mark.

Eh, the are plenty of people who are getting defensive and acting like you need to take a college course to understand and/or like Kendrick and that's the kind of shit that I'm talking about.

Who is the target audience for a petty halftime show from Kendrick?

But yea this was the closing event for the beef not sure if KDot will ever perform those songs again.
 
He’ll still perform these songs on tour, but I doubt he’ll do Not Like Us or anything involving the beef in a large stage like this one or an awards show again. Even if he does its gotta be years from now or when it’s organic to that moment. In the short term it would be in his best interest to keep moving forward from this point. The halftime show was the perfect time to end the wave.
