COMMUNITY Which big business corporation are you keeping?

I watched the video that Tabitha Brown put out and it makes perfect sense.

She mentioned still going to Target/Walmart but only purchasing the items from those businesses that you do support because if we boycott, that’s just a quick way for their items to be taken off the shelf. I agree.

Don’t buy your eggs and whatnot from those stores but if it’s a minority business in that store you support, continue to purchase their items.

ehhh I wasnt with that. especially if you can get those products somewhere else

My counter to this is, and this is after reading a lot more about this than I initially knew

Boycotts are meant to be uncomfortable. It's all or nothing. A lot of those businesses have their own sites, if, Etsy, etc... The target branding gets them in spaces they wouldn't have otherwise been in. So, as a provider of goods, try to set it up to have a way people can get your products outside of shopping at Target

Tabitha is also speaking from a certain place is privilege. Her products are sold at Target, Walmart and Ulta. She's a millionaire and talking out both sides of her mouth

The Alabama bus boycott wouldn't have been as successful if people still took the bus 3/7 days. They were at it for 385+ days. They were serious and then they saw change cause the bottom line of the privately run bus company felt the pinch

Being a Midwesterner makes Meijer a simple alternative to Target and Walmart.

Amazon is gonna be a bit harder since a lot of my grooming products are rarely ever in stores. I have, however started going directly to certain websites for some things.

As far as un-Facebooking my life, I rarely use WhatsApp, Telegram is decent enough. Threads, though is my Twitter replacement, haven't found my Rhythm with Bluesky yet.

I think it’s to show them what they are gonna be potentially missing out on.

I can’t say I’m confident as a group of people we are gonna really do anything about it. Black people do not come together.

I think she’s speaking for others as well. Not just herself. Everyone doesn’t have the privilege she has. Some folks just have Target. Why not sell them out until their contract is up? Why should they take a hit because Target/Walmart is on their bullshit.

With all the talk about companies no longer participating in DEI initiatives, are there any you are going to seriously boycott?

There's been some very interesting conversations on Bluesky about this and it seems like people are really going to speak with their wallets.

I personally called Target yesterday to cancel both my debit and credit card with them and told them it was because of their decision regarding DEI. These corporations have made it so that only a few control the majority so you in essence are going to end up supporting one or more depending on your personal situation.

But to answer my question, I'm going to try my hardest to not shop at a lot of these places but the one place I guess I'ma keep is Amazon. I guess it's a case of the devil you know.

But thoughts? Who are y'all letting go? Who are you keeping?

Why are you doing this? "No push for Trump"

I'm asking a question, no attack but just want clarity, you can do what you want but has DEI helped black folks?

Blacks folks benefitted the least from DEI hires as to whites benefitting the most from it from what I heard. Blacks 3.8%, you can say 4%

Again, I'm just asking why are you boycotting when DEI did not help black folks out, which I thought that it was supposed to do?

Every time I heard DEI hire, I thought it was something that helped many black folks get on.

If my 4% is incorrect, someone can pull up to the stats and see who ate off the DEI plate the most and who ate off of it the least??

It was always a scam for white women to exploit. Basically it created a bunch of executive or management positions that white women monopolized. Even white women fresh out of college were snagging those jobs

Why are we crashing out and the DEI program didn't benefit black folks anyways?

I'm just asking, who actually got the jobs the most? I know dayum well it wasn't black folks

Let's be real, these attempts at being inclusive after 2020 were fake af anyway so them getting rid of these initiatives ain't changing anything. Although, target did seem to be more front facing about theirs.

The problem is these companies have a monopoly on everything so ppl can't really afford to not shop at Walmart or Amazon for basic necessities.

And great question, what stores do we have that’s not a Target and Walmart where we can get stuff from?
Outside of a few exclusive items that each one has, most grocery items are pretty much everywhere

You're just going to have to go to two stores instead of one

But Costco is pretty close, you just have to buy in bulk

What stores are you going to continue to support? Which ones are you done with

I'm going to have to disagree with the bolded. I think she talking about herself as well as smaller businesses that don't have the same social media presence as she does. It's real easy to tell someone to sacrifice when you're not the one facing financial disruption or even potential ruin to your business. I mean Target put them in a very awkward position, let's give these businesses some grace while they figure out their next moves.

I can see if giving some grace if Target was the ONLY place your product was and they managed all of the storage and distribution aspects thats involved with that.

but for someone that has placement on Amazon, in Walmart, in Target AND on their own site... naaaah miss me with that only buy my stuff in target but boycott the rest of the store tip.

I know that wasnt her sentiment but it can be seen in that light

But if their products aren't sold then the company has to pay the money that was fronted to back to Target. Now Tab may be able to handle that, but there have been other business owners who posted videos stating that would bankrupt their business. And let's be real black folks aren't going to buy direct from business enough to offset that loss.

Point taken. Id be curious to know how many black businesses are going off of consignment rather than having Target buy the products from those businesses outright and them reselling. It's definitely not a black and white issue

I don’t wanna buy in bulk. I have a two person household.

I feel like we should give people more then 4 days to come up with a pivot plan...
