When did CDs stop selling?

The last time i remember cds actually selling...

Was when 50 tried to make that 50 cent vs kanye beef, to see who could sell da most cds. That was over 10 years ago

Yeah thats kind of the last great push for CDs...

I buy all my CDs online now but fck I used to love spending time in HMV and Virgin etc just browsing or heading straight for an album before it sold out... We had some great local/underground CDs shops over here too... Deal Real for instance was legendary, that closed around 2008-ish I think, but Mos Def, Ye, Wu Tang to Amy Winehouse and John Legend had been known come through and perform in the store before...

I used to buy cds up until 2018 when I changed the vehicles and had more options than just cd or radio. but stores have definitely downsized or completely removed cds, so they're less common in general.

lmao @ the camcorder and old ass flip phones. all of them have that classic early 00's silver/blue color to them too

Anyone used to buy random CDs just off the art work??? haha then in the bigger stores like you could listen to a CD before you buy it...

Man hell yeah! Lol! I almost DIDN'T buy DMX's album b/c of his album cover. Lol!

Beats, Rhymes, and Life and ATLiens was 2 other albums I bought solely off the album covers. Didn't listen to them until I played them in my cd player.

But man...the opportunity to listen to a whole album...plus the full songs at some of the music store (cuz others only played snippets)...GOATNESS.

CDs stopped selling when people began to have the option of putting music directly onto their phones and the literal option of havinga place to play cds was taken away. Cds still sold even when Ipods first dropped and even through Napster and Limewire. I mean think about how many million+ 1st week album sales all came in the 2000s when downloading was available. But when people could now put thousands of songs on their phones and cars started being sold without cd players, laptops without a cd drive etc then they stopped selling because there was literally no place to play them.

Yeah I bought tons of album off the covers alone back in the day, especially CD singles when I was kid with my pocket money haha

I remember I bought the 504 Boyz album because of the case, it wasnt normal clear jewel case, it had a thick, black plastic case which was really random at the time (still is) and really bulky... It was over £20 at the time too, which was ridiculously expensive and hit my pockets hard haha glad I did though because I discovered the classic 'I Can Tell'...

Connected my phone to my car via Bluetooth in 2013, started playing all my music off my phone and computer…. It been a wrap since then.

Artwork was better than the album though.
Those album samplers came in clutch when i was a broke ass kid. Found a 30 second snippit i liked and just kept running it back. Now i can youtube/stream a whole lp as a broke ass adult

most newer cars, dont even have cd players no mo

I didnt even realise my car didnt have CD player until after I had bought it smh

I havent seen a CD player in forever either

Yeah most music fans who still want to play CDs (or vinyl) have actual home sound systems set up these days, with separate specialised CD player, turntable, amps, speakers etc... The all in one CD players people had in the 2000s, like the Sony, Panasonic, Philips joints etc have long gone from homes... I know @Bed$tuy has a dope set up and is fellow Denon head like myself...

I miss going to Media Play to buy that album that's been anticipated for months or year. New release albums were like Jordans back in the day. I used to couldn't wait until my favorite artists or clique drop their album, so I can be one of the first to have it in school. Unwrapped the plastic from the cd, and pop it in the cd player while looking at the booklet to see all of the shout outs.
