OPINION What year did you realize Hiphop was dead??

Sooo since Sugarhill Gang’s Rappers Delight?? Orrr Run DMC’s Walk This Wat?? Hammer?? Hip-Hop has been “commercially accessible” since people figured out they can make money off it…

In 2025 of you can’t find any hip-hop music you like then it’s prolly more of what @Allah_U_Akbar said and you may have just “aged out” of tha “culture”…but rest assured Hip-Hop is still alive

I DL hip-hop albums damn near every Friday 🤷🏽‍♂️

What year was that?
Whenever you want to identify that period but it's gone downhill from there

It's no longer about the artistry, it's about record sales, streaming, etc ...

So even using sugar Hill gang, I'm under the belief it's been a slow and gradual death ever since

I honestly don’t know what you mean by this bruh lol

Since you seem to be serious in ya response I’ll engage…pause lol…since Beta in it for tha bs aspect lmaooo

Are you saying that hip-hop was only “alive” when it was coming outta DJ speakers in tha Bronx or playing on a bootlegged tape of that same set??

I honestly feel like y’all downplaying tha impact, influence, artistry and music that has continuously come out of hip-hop since it’s inception and is still happening…

Hiip-hop is used commercially across tha world, break dancing was recently added to tha Olympics, festivals are huge, it’s bein’ made across tha world and here in tha states I truly believe that someone who likes hip hop music can honestly find any kind of music THEY like still bein’ made to this day…

And if it’s some “feeling that can’t be explained” then again maybe you’ve just aged out of it and that’s perfectly fine and even a more understandable response than tha whole “Hip-Hop is dead” thing…

Thank you for the response

And your post at least imo validates mine cause for all the "good" that has happened, more bad came with it as executives stopped developing talent and went to signing no name niggas from one hot song.

Lyhor Cohen not listening to rap in his daily life yet he makes so many decisions regarding it

I understand that but in that same vein black people have never got tha fair shake in tha business aspect of much of anything…sports are dead?? Entertainment is dead?? Nope…and hip-hop is these even moved a lot over 50 yrs after its birth…

Artists still make underground hip-hop…regional hip-hop…mainstream hip-hop…alternative music…etc etc

Again…it’s fine to outgrow or see tha “truth” about summin and not like that part of something you used to be blind too but it doesn’t make tha art dead

That's due to our ages. Every generation gets aged out. In 2005 when I was 19 had a 50+ yr old dude at the job telling me DMX and Jay was wack. How can anyone listen to Wayne etc.
How did you age out of music that came out when yall were 20-25?

Especially when yall would rather talk about music when you were 10-15?

Ok so we are having two different convos by accident

Is the art of hip hop dead? No

Is hip hop so far gone from it's origins? Yes
