What Requirements Should People Need To Purchase A Gun?

I feel like it should be easier to drive and drink than owning a gun

Nearly the same number of people die in car accidents every year and almost four times the number of people die from alcohol every year over gun deaths so, nah, them shits don't need to be easier.

My mistake. I meant move everything from 18 to 21. So everything you can now do at 18.. make that 21

I'll edit because I see the confusion now
Nah I gotcha but waiting to 21 to drive doesn’t seem viable

I’ll compromise on drinking though

Not being able to drive to college or work until you’re a junior or 21 is wild though

One thing that's been happening a lot recently is some kid/young adult goes in for some mental issues, the person don't have a gun to his name, but there's guns in the he household.

Then the person takes their parents or whoevers fun and kills people.

Needs there to be a law where if someone living in a house is having mental issues, there needs to be a check done on how the guns are being stored, and either prove that the person with mental issues can't get to it or take them out the house until the person is cleared.

The only way to strengthen them would be to require the same background check on private sales which, IMO, would be the best thing possible.

Interesting. I legit assumed this was required for all private sales across the country. This is already how it is in California. Even private sales require a background check.

I agree but I dunno that that will resolve anything really. When you own rifles in california, you HAVE to own a state approved safe or lock device. But it ain't like they sending niggas to your crib for random checks to make sure that you're using it, or that you haven't gotten rid of it, or whatever the fuck else.

FBI background checks are already done when you buy from a gun shop or pawn shop that handles guns. The only way to strengthen them would be to require the same background check on private sales which, IMO, would be the best thing possible.

There's a checkbox that I'm pretty sure folks lie on, but the 4473 does specifically ask if you've ever been involuntarily committed to a mental institution and if you check "yes" you're automatically disqualified from buying a gun. Taking that a step further would mean that anyone involuntarily committed would need to be flagged at the federal level so this question isn't even necessary; it will reject the purchase automatically.

Yep but who knows how in depth they really go and if certain things are “really” checked. It could be just skimming for certain yes/no boxes that are checked that will either approve or deny you. Also it’s not like these checks are done after the fact. You buy a gun today, background check done.. then two weeks from now you lose your shit and a mental evaluation is done then… you still got that firearm in your possession that will continue to be unchecked until you use it in some kind of event.

Gun safes are rather cheap and effective for the bulk of these mass shooting/school shooting. Many times it occurred w/ guns from families home… lock your shit up!!! Especially if you know someones around that might be mentally unstable. Families gotta do their part too, if you know crazy cousin Larry is well not all the way there help get him the help and stop sweeping that shit underneath the rug. Then when something happens I never expected this from him etc.

Same for Nevada, but not many other states require it. Make it mandatory across the board.

Thats a good idea, had no idea they handled private sales that way but I do remember it being rather easy to do in most places without the additional red tape and what a lot of people preferred. Personally I have only ever went the gun-shop or FFL route.

Which is where red flag laws step in: Lose your shit, eval is done and if they determine you're a threat to yourself and others, it's submitted to the courts to strip you of the right to purchase or own a gun of any type. I would go further and say that if they believe you're an immediate threat then the sheriff would then need to confiscate any guns the person owns that day until the court says its ok to release them.
