COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

At the end of the day, we're in a situation where it's "preserving people's Healthcare next year" vs "allowing people to get back to putting food on the table" now.

I don't think the Dems should cave, but it's weird to me how the super shutdown supporters don't seem to understand how much people are suffering right now. The Reps are hurting over the shutdown, but they weren't showing any signs of moving. How long are the Dems supposed to play chicken with other people's livelihoods at stake?

I don't think it's a lack of understanding. From what im seeing it's people saying why put people though 40 days of a shutdown just to cave. Things got made worse in both the short term, the past 40 days, and the long term because they won't get what they want with the ACA not being extended.

It's also taking some of the fault off Republicans because they also were playing chicken with folks lives and livelihoods at stake and now the Dems will be seen as the ones at fault when that's not the full truth. But thats how it probably will be spun.

I don't think they should have caved simply because I wouldn't trust maga on their word that they'd have a vote for the ACA

They've made it clear no matter what they're not extending the ACA. So they'll probably give them the day to vote and just all vote against it and say "see we gave yall what we said. A day to vote on it"

No they don’t have the win Especially not after tonight

What happened tonight is one of the main reasons why ppl are turning away from the Dems especially black ppl
There is an exhaustive list of things maga has done in trumps 2nd term that dems can and should use to turn voters to them in 2026 and 2028

Bro u just seen the Dems get into a fight w the Repubes and capitulate without getting any of the things they got into a fight over in the first place….

And this is after this very fight led to a massive blue wave in the past week elections

U expect this lot to be effective?

I don't think they should have caved but I strongly think it's not smart to go extremely far left
