COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

Well.. it didn’t.

The shutdown benefited absolutely nobody. Except maybe Trump cuz we right back where we started. Whoever thought this was a good strategy to do this with the holidays right there is an idiot. People start to not give a fuck and turn on the government as a whole if money is taken out their pocket.

I disagree with this take. Again, the Reps just got crushed during the recent elections, so a lot of people aren't really buying their crap anymore. The Dems could easily be out hitting all the media spots blaming the Reps for the shutdown. If they are going to cave, they just have to get the people to understand that they decided to stop doing short term damage to stave off what's come. From now until those rates go up, they should just routinely remind the public what is going to happen and make sure everyone remembers that the Reps refused to stop it even in the midst of a shutdown.

I see a lot of people trashing the Senators that are deciding to cave. Again, I get that, but let's be real, most of the people that are adamant about not caving are people that aren't being impacted by the shutdown. It's easy to on that side when you're still getting a pay check.
It's real easy to talk about sacrifice when it's not your livelihood on the line. Like @BlackRain said people aren't really ready to do what needs to be done. Americans are fickle as fuck, once the holidays came and people wouldn't be able to travel I bet money the tables would have turned on the Democrats.

That's such a stupid take. I think some of these people need to go outside and touch grass. Food banks are literally being overrun now. Shit isn't just about "Thanksgiving plans being disrupted." Shutdowns almost never work out in Democrat favor. Why? Because a lot of Democrats, weak and corrupt as they might be, actually care what happens to people. The Republicans don't. At the end of the day, the Dems will always cave first.

Two things can be true at the same time

I agree and I'm not against the people that criticize Dems for caving. I'm just against this perception they're push of the stakes being only on one side. Yes, the Dems caved and now a lot of people are going to be screwed for healthcare next year. However, there are people missing meals and about to be kicked out of housing NOW. Let's not act like there wasn't also a bad side to the Dems continuing to hold out against Reps who clearly don't care whether the government comes back or not.
