It's also taking some of the fault off Republicans because they also were playing chicken with folks lives and livelihoods at stake and now the Dems will be seen as the ones at fault when that's not the full truth. But thats how it probably will be spun.

I disagree with this take. Again, the Reps just got crushed during the recent elections, so a lot of people aren't really buying their crap anymore. The Dems could easily be out hitting all the media spots blaming the Reps for the shutdown. If they are going to cave, they just have to get the people to understand that they decided to stop doing short term damage to stave off what's come. From now until those rates go up, they should just routinely remind the public what is going to happen and make sure everyone remembers that the Reps refused to stop it even in the midst of a shutdown.

I see a lot of people trashing the Senators that are deciding to cave. Again, I get that, but let's be real, most of the people that are adamant about not caving are people that aren't being impacted by the shutdown. It's easy to on that side when you're still getting a pay check.

I agree with the last few sentences snd it's something I've said often when folks talk about just letting everything burn down. I just think right now folks are clearly pissed at Republicans for the shut down but also view the Dems caving as making this entire thing pointless. You're right the long term game would be to blame Republicans when the premiums go up. Only problem is the same folks affected by the shut down will also be the same People most impacted by the premiums. So caving comes off as "We gotta make you suffer both now and later to hopefully get what you want". They spent 40 days without pay on the hope of a hope of a promise. That is gonna piss people off.
