COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

You know what bothers me most about politics these days? It's how politicians can get on a mic and tell blatant demonstrable lies, get caught, and there's no consequences. They do it all the time now. Mike Johnson is hitting up all the news outlets and saying that the Dems were demanding changes to Medicaid to give illegal aliens free health insurance. That's a complete lie. Yet, he's able to repeat that over and over to make it seem like the Dems' unreasonable requests are what led to the shutdown. That's just crazy. There should be some kinda rule that allows politicians who knowingly spread lies to be sued.
They wouldn't be politicians if they couldn't lie

Hell I couldn't even imagine what campaigning would be like if lying wasn't allowed

I don't know. If we look back even 15 years ago, lying meant "stretching or twisting the truth." Nowadays, politicians and media pundits just straight up lie. They say shit that has no semblance of truth and can be disproven in 5 seconds, and there's nothing done about it.

We have to put a stop to this. It's gone too far.

Hindsight is 20/20 but seems it was inevitable. Started with Trump "telling it like it is" and throwing decorum and political correctness out the window. Some of it is him being a piece of shit some of it is also ppl getting tired of politicians robotically telling half truths sounding like redundant scripts...sounding good saying a lot of nothing.

Our whole democracy has been built on the majority of elected officials having a semblance of honor and decorum. In the past, those people would oust those who are shameless, i.e. Nixon.

Now the republicans mainly are operating on shameless tactics and blatant lies and hypocrisy. Not saying some democrats don’t, but it’s at another level on the republican side.

knowing dems, they constantly bring up how theyre gunna go after them & they all pardon themselves
Should have put Trump in cuffs on Biden’s inauguration. They had all of the video evidence they needed and even at that time republicans were condemning Trump.

Instead they put Garland in who slow-walked the whole investigation and left the bulk of the legwork with the select committee.

Trump regains even more power over his base, solidifies his cult, and here we are.
