The White House won’t clarify whether President Trump intends to send federal troops to Baltimore, after he made remarks earlier today implying as much.
While Trump derided the city, as well as Chicago, as “hellholes” during a rambling justification for his desire to continue deploying troops on American soil, he was explicit in saying that federal agents would be “going in” to Chicago, but referenced Baltimore only in the context of having “an obligation to protect this country.” Trump’s threats come as the city is noting historic lows in violent crime. The White House did not respond to an inquiry from The Times seeking clarification shortly after the remarks.
