COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

How the hell does firing the people in charge of keeping planes from crashing into helicopters not have much impact on a plane crashing into a helicopter?
"Not much"=/=none at all. Apparently FAA was assed out before the last administrator even got there. They were already understaffed as he vowed to increasing staffing in that department. Even from there, the tower was being manned by one air traffic controller when it should've been two. Trump's mistake was not having a replacement immediately after he left (he just hired a new guy the day after the crash), but that still wouldn't have fixed the issue of understaffing there. I just looked up all this info just now so someone can correct me. We'll see when the investigation ends.

Exactly. This been a long time coming.
The pandemic lockdowns shut down flights. Staff retired early or quit, hiring and training froze. When society began to open up and flights began increasing to normal levels staffing never caught up.

In 2023 they were freaking out about the possibilities of collisions as near collisions were reported at a decade high and each and every time they attributed it to overburdened system/over worked air traffic controllers.

Y'all hate to hear it but both sides are politicizing tf out of this like they do everything else. Trump is just way more low IQ with it.

This is the weirdest shit to be reading on A BLACK WEB.

The guy that gutted the FAA safety commission, put a white, unqualified reality star in charge of the Dept of Transportation and enacted a hiring freeze on air traffic controllers all in his first week is not responsible in any way for the first midair crash that happened on US soil in 25 years? And the only viable explanation we've heard from him and his administration is there are too many non-white men being hired to do important jobs?

Tell me who you are without telling me who you are.

Trump is a shit dude man we all agree to that. He spewing all the divisive bullshit and no one should be surprised this is how he reacts to a tragedy. I’m just telling you from personal experience this crash most likely isn’t a direct result of him coming into office. Which is why I been saying wait till the actual mishap investigation happens.

A hiring freeze doesn't mean anyone was laid off. It means no new ppl have been hired. So the staff they have today is the same staff they had before trump took office. Not one less body than before. (Only referring to air traffic controllers).

The people that did get fired are not in the ATC towers actually guiding planes.

And the people that actually are guiding planes all day long, did not suddenly show up to work with blindfolds on and forget the hundreds of hours of training just because the big guy in the office got fired.

The ATC is a very serious job. You have to retire at 56, the job is high stress and has a high turnover rate. Around Nov of 2024 they were actually opening up for hiring as they had shortages.

I actually do think Trump coming in to office indirectly affects the performance of all federal employees and contractors. Just like any company or job that has leadership changes. The morale and mental space of employees can be affected.

But is it his fault as if he was directly in the tower guiding the aircraft and helicopter...no

But to dismiss the chaos and un rest he has initiated across federal agencies as a non contributing factor is careless

I mean the head of the FAA step down because of what appears to be conflict with Trumps BF , Elon along with Not wanting to work under Trump

a hiring freeze is initiated when your already understaffed

A team of FAA advisory personnel in safety and security are fired.

The head of TSA is fired.

I bet all that played a part in 64 people no longer being here.

Yes whom ever was in that Tower is at fault. But working in the airport, you learn it's usually multiple contributing factors that lead to failure.

Safety is huge at the airport, it's extremely dangerous and people die from the smallest things. But unfortunately it's still regular people that deal with the same shit as everyone else. So low staff, change in employee morale cam definitely affect the work performance

Some reports are saying the Tower staffing was low. So if the staff was overwhelmed and trying to manage air flow beyond their capacity.... not just the ATC fault...and Trump isn't really helping...just being a distraction imo.

And clearly Trump does what he wants and has no rules. So ppl believing it takes time for the fuckery to seep in are sleeping 😴
