COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

Tariffs mostly been a negotiating tactic. Short and long term it would damage us and weaken our strength in the global market

So I wonder why other countries are caving?

Also if the tariffs aren't going to stick the market gotta come back up sooner than later I would assume

Maybe no recession
Which countries are caving? Trump isn’t even making any demands behind these tariffs other than reducing fentanyl from crossing the border, which is the dumbest reason to have a trade war.

So no, they’re not being used as a negotiating tactic. You don’t dole out the punishment before negotiations even begin.

And the reason the markets have stayed down even when Trump pulls back on tariffs is because markets crave stability and his nonsense is causing confusion and chaos.

For instance Trump proposed 25% tariffs on Canada
Canada decides to surcharge electricity on US states
Trump threatens to double tariffs to 50%
Canada pauses electricity surcharge
The 25% tariffs against Canada are still in play

Agree with the last paragraph

I see what you’re saying and when I responded I hadn’t heard yet that both sides backed off.

The thing is, I don’t even think these countries even really know what they need to do to cave which is why I don’t see much caving going on.

For the Canada tariffs still in place, there’s such a small amount of fentanyl coming in from Canada there’s probably not much they can do so the tariffs are just going to be there from both sides. Mexico has said most of the fentanyl coming from there is being smuggled by US citizens. So there’s really nothing to cave on and they are keeping their retaliatory tariffs.

Can we even call it a negotiating tactic? He created this, and no one knows what he wants.

He ripped up NAFTA and negotiated the signing of the USMCA

Then violated his own agreement and Implement the 25% tariffs under the guise of Canada exporting fentanyl and illegal immigration to America.

All at the increased price bump for us

The fentanyl in Canada shit is clearly some optics bs for the public but that's my point. Why did Canada fall back on the electricity surcharge?

I just read this after my last post:

Call it negotiations or a discussion

Starting a trade war with our allies for goods we wouldn't even import if they were cheaper to produce domestically is nonsense.

And trying to spin talking down a suicide bomber as "negotiations" isn't even subtle glazing.

Your post comes off as though I agree with what Trump is doing and that I believe tariffs are a good idea

Some of u mistakenly comprehend my posts as defense of Trump/Republicans thus u never make the refutation u think u are
