IMO platonic relationships can only be pure when there is an imbalance in desirability...

Meaning 1 is more overweight/older/uglier than the other, to the point that there’s no question it will never go there on a physical level.

Now this doesn’t mean the “undesirable” one won’t catch feelings, but they probably will never act on it or it will get shut down quickly if they do.
