See your talking about our power in presidential elections. Our power has never been with the presidential office. I personally don't need to see another black president. A black person has to white wash themselves too much to win that office because like you said someone has to appeal to white voters there's just no getting around that. Our power is with who represents us in Congress. A person who constituency is 45 percent Black is more inclined to court the black vote then a person whose constituency is only 12 percent.
I am not talking about power in presidential elections. I am talking about mass political power to move a large amount of people to do agenda that mostly benefits Black Americans. I am talking about getting what is owed.
Think about American History from the 1865 to 1965. It was 100 years of America wrestling with what to do with Black Americans. How to incorporate us into the country. How to deal with White racism and backlash.
It was 100 years of focus on us. That's how we got so far. Nobody else had the stage.
Then fools went to talking about people of color, immigrants, gender, sexual minorities and didn't even secure the bag yet. We are the ones that opened up these conversations and avenues because we thought it was the moral thing to do. We didn't have to do that. We are the ones that built the country, what the fuck did anybody else do to deserve to even talk? Because they had a bad time in America too?
Everything from the stock market to the medical profession was built off of slavery and degradation of our people. We are talking about trillions of dollars, not people's feeling about how bad White people are.
I don't care about elections. I don't care about voting. I don't care about political parties. I care about if we have power and wealth. Until we have power and wealth, I am agnostic to any formal political process or political ideology.
And we need 100 years and more on those two things and nothing else. We focused 100 years on civil rights. We didn't care about shit else and we fumbled it by extending our win to everyone.
Politicians only do what they are forced to do and your fellow citizens are your competition. Either you can convince your fellow citizens to join your cause or you dominate them. You shut them out.
Political capital is time multiplied by pressure. A lot of time has lapsed since 1965 and there's been zero pressure for politicians to do anything to rectify the wealth gap that slavery caused.
Black folks made concessions to other interest groups and the Democratic Party out of an unwillingness to do the dirty work required to win and sustain primacy in American political consciousness because of lack of vision of what a powerful Black population looks like. We only know how to be servile.
