He's coming home in January

This will make an interesting topic seeing as football may take a brief haitus.

Can you name a player or players that have come back to their former clubs and it went well having either maintained or enhanced their status and performance levels from the time they previously left?

Right now the only names that come to mind are:

  1. Zaha (Crystal Palace) most definitely
  2. Fabregas (Barcelona) I think he at least maintained
  3. Drogba (Chelsea) scored in champions league finals if I'm not mistaken
  4. Matic (Chelsea) I don't recall much of his first time being at Chelsea, but his second stint won him titles before moving to Man U
  5. Defoe (Spurs) defoe might not be as clinical when compared to today's standards set by the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski, Salah etc... But back when 1 in 2 was considered a good return goal tally for strikers, he seemed to regularly come there or there abouts with the goods at 1 goal in 2.5/3 games consistently

Drogba returned and won prem

I've been meaning to ask you about him and other Chelsea loanees (usually there's many but there's been an actual sale of late of quite a few) other than Gallagher.

Do you reckon he will come back next season for Chelsea, stay but out on loan again or get sold.

Personally I've really liked what I've seen so far from him at Soton, he's strong, got good footwork and decent pace. Plus at 20 yo he can certainly improve on his potential.

I reckon another season (22/23) that's successful on loan again, then he should be coming into the Chelsea squad for good. By then werner would probably have left and he'd either be no. 2 or no. 3 in rank behind lukaku
