I think you do to a degree, not that I would watch the games, but I still think they are needed to try out new players/tactics, inform players, keep players that would normally play against each other as teammates etc a couple friendlies a year I have no problem with... We cant expect to lump a bunch of players together and expect them to preform well at a tournament, especially when we dont know which players to choose or which players play well together...

Nah, scrap all international friendlies. Teams can figure shit out in the qualifiers.

If only... But that wouldnt really work, teams cant afford to lose games in qualifiers by rookie mistakes like not knowing their best squad and tactics etc... By that time you need to have got the right squad together, trained and know what roughly your best teams are... IMO you need two or three a year, otherwise managers would 'play it safe' and chances are new players like Sancho and Mount wouldnt get their chance... Im not a fan of friendlies and I think we play too many pointless ones, but a couple a year are needed...

Club football will always trump country football.

'I'm just not sure you are ever going to win the league with a goal scorer like him,' Scholes told ESPN. 'I don't think his play outside the box is good enough. I'm not sure if he works hard enough but he's still a young man who has done well and scored a lot of goals.'

Good, but not good enough. This is the growing consensus about Lukaku, the man Jose Mourinho prised from under the nose of Chelsea last year with a succession of convincing phone calls during the striker's holidays in New York.

Up against Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci on Tuesday evening, his 32 touches were the fewest of any player on the field and his 72 percent pass completion rate the worst of any starting player.

It is now eight games without a goal for Manchester United and he has not scored at Old Trafford since March.

Lukaku says he is still to develop key relationships with his team-mates: 'The players need to know me and know my movement. When that starts clicking, I think the results I have with Belgium will also come here.'

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sharpe, who played for United between 1988 and 1996, said: 'I've never seen a centre forward with such a bad touch. If your centre forward can't hold the ball up, it makes it a very hard game.'

Lukaku was mocked by supporters online after a video emphasising his lack of close control went viral.

In the clip, Lukaku attempts to control the ball on the right flank but only just manages to keep it in play, being forced to turn backwards in the process.

After managing to sort his feet out, Lukaku then attempts to locate Ashley Young with a cross-field pass but is unable to find his team-mate.
