The Downfall of Mainstream Rap

Hiphop is trash at the moment. If it isn't a diss record or Tiktok song of the month nothing is moving on the charts. Nobody is exciting, bars are terrible and beats/production is absolute shit.

I said it on here before. Old head I used to talk music with in the mid 2000s sounded like this except he came from an even earlier era than this post. Said Jay was aight and DMX was trash, didn't care for Nas, examples I can remember.

No doubt shit changes and shifts but we just holding on to our era like every previous generation did with theirs.

I think the bears might be an issue. We might need super producers again to start being paid top dollars by labels to hand artist the hits w the hooks on em already

Can't be up in the club trying to dance to serial killer music.

Same generation that's complaining now was in the club partying to Lil Jon and Three Six Mafia like it was nothing lol. As always it's not just one thing it's a mixture of things. One of them being a flood of music because anybody can release shit. So artists have their own niche fan bases that latch on and they cater to them

I have no idea what’s actually playing on the radio. I have not listened to the radio in 10+ years. Sometimes my barber plays what’s on the radio, but it’s basically the news or call ins from Power 105 or Hot 97.

Last night my cousin told me Raheem DeVaughn been on the radio here in DC for a couple years now. Told him I had no clue because it's been years since I've listened to an actual radio station not on Sirius XM.

Innovation is pretty much gone from American Hip Hop. Nothing to love really.

Social media and the internet has done away with the 1 thing that made rap stand out from some other genres and thats regionalism. Now new rappers all using the same sounding beats, slang, imagery etc. There's nothing to distinguish alot of new artist, and some older who are tying to keep up, from each other. I don't want to hear a NY rapper using southern slang and vice versa.

I came to terms with this.

Autotune and mumbling turned me away from a lot

Also repeating the same line over and over makes me want to skip it

It's evolved and it's not much you can do about it
