But I'm not too good at that shit.
See, I could have me a good girl
And still be addicted to them hood rats
And I just blame everything on you
At least you know that's what I'm good at

sign of the times... mad women don't like taking dudes last names no more.....

so they hyphenate......and they don't wanna give the kids a dude full last name, so they hyphenate that shit too.....

but i ain't gonna say any more on it in fear of coming of as misogynistic

Wait Nuh. Is given the child a hyphenated name really a thing now. I know in some cultures they add the last name on to the name so they can trace lineage but that is different.

if it's a cultural/lineage thing all props and honor given to thee...

but if it's that "why i gotta take a man name?" shit....
:smh:

I am with @King Du on this. If the couple is married there should be no reason for the child to have a hyphenated last name. Now in cases where they are not married or even in a committed relationship it gets a little messy.

word, one of the best things my mother ever did was give me her last name

Well my case is messy. My mother never divorced her husband so I ended up with her married name. Her husband is not my father and they had separated two years before I was conceived. All my life I wanted to change my name to her maiden name and it became a real problem for me when I got married and gave my son the last name. I just view it as his lineage last name starts with me.

Because at some point I realized that I am who I am. The name is as significant as if I had given it to myself. I spent all these years doing things for this name. I have built a reputation good or bad with this name. So this is name I have fought for and defended. I will explain it to him when he is old enough to understand .

yea, my father named me after the son his wife miscarried....

wanted to change my name when i found that out.. but i made it my own....

but yea, i got my mom's last name because not only was he still married to his wife, him and my mother weren't really a couple

yo if u at chuck e cheese and someone in your family start fighting.. u breaking it up or swinging?
