What's the grand goal with the Target boycott?
The goal is to hit white people where it hurts... Their bottom line. The reason I think nothing significant came of the George Floyd protests is that we as a collective were too emotionally engaged. We spread ourselves too thin trying to boycott everyone at once.
This more targeted (no pun) approach saw immediate impact. We have to do these boycotts one store at a time.
But I don't feel like I really answered your question. So Target was one of the first to publicly announce all these initiatives for black entrepreneurs immediately following BLM and George Floyd. Then all of a sudden, they latched onto Trump's anti dei policies for no reason or rather none that was made available to the public. They are a private run entity and seemingly did this under their own free will which was a huge contradiction against all the good will they had established among black shoppers.
When you compare them to Costco, Costco (and I'm sure they have their own self interests) was like nah, we not doing that which caused a surge of new memberships. Think about that, people would rather pay a membership to shop at a place over one you can just walk in off the street. Costco doubled down on their dei shit and target has been reeling ever since
