Spend That (Wicked A** Song or Is That Your Jam?)

And I think the point india.arie and others are making is why is this type of shit and black music/culture attached at the hip?

And no not everyone hearing this music has free will to just not listen. Specifically kids around adults playing the bullshit.

You're intentionally trying not to understand tho.

Ok

Kids don't have free will. I wasn't talking about kids but ok. Got me there

This conversation goes way beyond this point you and India are making which y'all are being intentional about not understanding.

Simply put, record labels weren't hellbent on putting this out for public consumption, it doesn't get made.

Ask India what are her experiences with songs she wanted to make and the label told her no because xyz... And to make abc song instead

Shooter?

I listen to drake specifically but I've cut out pretty much all other rap and will eventually cut that off too. If that makes me a hypocrite I'll be that.

Doesn't change anything I said or answer a single question I asked in the post you quoted. Just more mental gymnastics.

Mans trying to ween himself off Drake. That's the craziest shit I've read in a minute.

MoeW makes at least 10 threads a week in the record forum showcasing ALL types of new music and I don't see a fraction of y'all in there talking about those projects

But talking about caresha who makes one song every presidential election

This has been discussed ad nauseam before. Black culture in America is American culture. You know what American culture has always propped up...the outlaw. The rule breakers, criminals and the crimes they committed. In all mediums of entertainment thats a consistent theme. So to expect rap music to be any different is foolish.
Yeah, why we gotta be the moral police of the world?

We the only good ones? We're better than everybody else? We the only ones that should promote uplifting instead of negativity???

Niggaz really want a music industry where everybody can make the most ridiculous music in the world, but black people have to be restricted to positive imagery.

Lost in all this is knock really don't give a fuck about this song and will be playing this shit on his 4th of July playlist

If Drake is the only rapper you listen to then your pov really is skewed more than India Arie and anybody else who thinks a song can "bring down the community"
Not sure if india or someone else said that. Im only talking about this...

I don't see how it only listening to drake consistently because I find most mainstream hiphop negative skews anything. I find most of mainstream hiphop negative so I don't listen to most of it. Whats the problem? Im not running around telling anyone not to listen im saying I don't.

The most prolific American music artist isn't doing any of that shit. The most prolific white films/shows aren't about that. At some point you gotta ask yourself why its only black artists/media where the majority of content skews that way. Or don't. But don't piss on me and tell me its rain.

You know what, let's take the movie affiliation out of the equation

My larger point remains. There are always going to be songs that probably shouldn't be as successful as they are but this isn't the last song that will be this popular.

Instead of blaming the culture, how about people start promoting other songs in an effort to drown out these types of songs

You putting the onus on the wrong people. Cause it's largely non black people getting fat off the record.

No one (at least not me and india) is blaming the culture. This Yung Miami shit isn't black culture. Why is culture even entering the conversation and why is this a representative? Seeing yall constantly accepting ignorance and labeling it as "culture" to shut everyone up cause you want to shake your hips is getting exhausting. Thats the point india is trying to make and you niggas took no time proving it.

When the taste makers and funders of black media are only bank rolling a specific type of media its a problem. You're either going to see the problem, ignore the problem or be part of the problem.

No

But I was responding more to the comments online vs the ones you've explicitly stated so that's my bad

But I fully understand that at any given point, we are going to be all three of the things you stated in your very last sentence.

I'm trying to do my part while also acknowledging I too will participate in some fuckery from time to time. I understand it's hypercritical but that's also the cost of this game which is why I'm so thankful that MoeW makes those threads because I wouldn't know about a lot of the music that's out

I don't listen to that hot girl summer music in my alone time or when my daughter is in the car. In the event she gets exposed to it by a girl from her school, and tells me about it, I have the age appropriate conversation with her about why that song is detrimental. I'm trying to do my part

Nah brotha,

Not being played on the Playlist and if it so happens to come up, from someone's Playlist, skipping the piss out of it.

I can't get behind that brotha.

Never heard a Asian artist say that they are looking for the scamming ass Asians.

We shouldn't be doing this in 2026 still
