I can understand that. For you the song is more about the memory you attach to it than the person who wrote it...and I think that way about songs too to an extent. But I also can't ignore the history or potential history/meaning either just because it doesn't fit my own person memory. That's something I'm not able to do

It's not that I ignore it. It's just that I won't stop listening to the songs if comes on the radio, the music downloaded to my phone, youtube etc.

I get that if you’re speaking of people still paying money to go to his shows and what not.

But if somebody has already bought his albums all the way in the 90’s or 2000’s when they came out, I don’t look at that as actively supporting because he’s not seeing any money from still listening to an album you’ve had for 10 or 20+ years.

And this is where I find myself coming to a point of contention with not only folks who can do what @DMorgan does. I've even used the Big Pun example before. One of my favorite rappers ever. Love his music but i can't listen to his shit the same since I saw that video of him chasing his wife with that gun. Even as dope as he is when I hear any gun references that is what comes to mind for me and I can't rock with that

Not like I'm putting in money in his pocket. I haven't paid for any R Kelly music since 12 play. I don't have any streaming services.

I'm just saying when his music comes on I ain't about to turn it off and feel like I can't listen to it.

I don't fuck with Mel Gibson because of his racist rant let me know 100% where he stands but I'll watch Braveheart.

Like said earlier I respect and understand where you/yall coming from. I fucking hate Kramer but I really like Seinfeld but it is very hard for me to watch Seinfeld because of Kramer the same as its difficult for you to listen to Big Pun.

I get it I really do just different for me regarding certain things and the way said person is presented in their craft.
