Roc-A-Fella Suing Dame Dash

Pretty sure Dame retained his ownership of Reasonable Doubt.
I recall it being a big deal that Jay got his masters for RD.

I don't think Dame owns that shit at all.

He didn't write it or produce it and doesn't own the masters.

He might get some of the publishing.

Sounds like Dame tried to pull some slick shit.

If I remember correctly that’s the one thing Jay didn’t get cuz Dame wouldn’t relinquish it

Nah this is what happened

they sold Roc a fella's remaining shares to Def Jam and split the money.

Def Jam wanted Jay to be CEO and take over the Roc,but all Jay asked Dame for was RD masters and they could have the Roc and all his other masters.

Dame refused to give Jay the masters so he took the CEO spot and bought/got the masters from Def Jam.

But Def jam still let Jay run Roc a fella even after they sold it as pres. of Def jam.

"So I was like, let me get Reasonable Doubt and I'll give up [the rest of] my masters. I'll give up Roc-A-Fella, I'll give up president and CEO of Def Jam—everything. Just give me my baby to hold on to so 10 years down the line, I can look back and I got something—I'm not empty-handed. And I was the 1 being offered everything. I thought it was more than fair ... And when that was turned down, I had to make a choice. I'll leave that for the people to say what choice they would've made. That's about it. I don't really wanna talk about Dame or Biggs. I don't have nothing negative to say about them."

I wonder why jay would give up ALL his other masters for his RD masters.. What is it about that album that would be so beneficial to him instead of the masters to all his other music? One could argue its his best album. Maybe its because it was an indie album and didnt have the Def Jam attachment to it. That RD album is what caused the riff though (plus the roc a wear sale). Biggs has also said he is never giving up his shares of Reasonable Doubt. Mentioned he is passing it on to his children.

I’m interested in seeing more on how these NFTs bout to be pimped in the music industry both in this case and others. I know they already poised to do so in some fashion.

Dame probabl
It takes a lifetime to create a debut album ...emotional attachment due to the struggle
Also along with you said,RD was on Priority pre Def Jam .I thought Def Jam owned those masters, but Roc a fella owned them most likely.

Priority usually gave artists a lot of freedom and only wanted to recoup and profit. They gave P an 80/20 split.

Jay probably really invested his own money in the making of that music too as opposed to once Def jam gave the Roc budgets.

So basically Jay wanted to get all of the master ownership from RD and cut Dame and Biggs out of that, but let them have everything else.

Seems like a fair deal from jay's side.

I see why he would say "Oh aight,so I can't have my debut for everything, bitch I'm taking everything then."

I really don't understand how NFTs hold value, other than people paying that amount for whatever reason.

Partly Because people waking up to the idea that money is fake and is pretty much based on the same - what people are willing to do for it.

NFTs strike me as one of those things that’s stupid, but it’s so stupid that it’s genius. Especially in the context of a near-future society. Where more and more ppl seem to be embracing the idea that non-physical things are not only valuable (many times even priceless) but that they should be able to be traded too, not just material things.

NFTs are stupid because they are basically taking the ecosystem of piracy, slapping encryption on it and then telling someone to pay for some shit that can be copied over and over and over.

NFTs are trying to place value on things that hold no value in the digital space to normal people. Once MP3s came out, the economics of the CD changed the point that music holds no value to the consumer other than the enjoyment they get from listening to it. And even then, people can't justify paying for something that is ubiquitous.

Copyrights and ownership in reality, was only enforced due to the fact that we didn't have the technology to reproduce shit. Now you can find every single album, book, movie, ever made on the internet. Who the fuck is paying for this shit other than middle men, so they can pimp the shit to content distrubtors who are gonna sell it to the consumer on some bullshit subscription model?

These crypto nerds are trying to hold back progress with this NFTs shit. Nobody cares to "legally" own art anymore because its every where.

Shit, music publishing rights has been worthless as fuck since Napster came out and the industry knows it. Unless you owning the Beatles or Michael Jackson or the Rolling Stones, most artists catalogs are worthless compared to other assets out there.

I really don't understand how NFTs hold value, other than people paying that amount for whatever reason.

Isn't that how anything holds value when it comes to economics. Value for most things are imaginary.

I'm confused on what Dame means by he's shopping around because Jay Low Balled him on 1/3 of Rocafella when Dame sold his share of Rocafella.

Maybe he means the Rocafella material he may have rights and publishing from?

In a clear-cut power move, JAY-Z commissioned “multidisciplinary” artist Derrick Adams to carve out a Reasonable Doubt non-fungible token (NFT) released on Friday (June 25) — exactly 25 years after its initial release date through Jigga and Damon Dash’s ex-record label, Roc-A-Fella Records.

However, it was just three days ago on Tuesday (June 22) when a New York judge ruled in favor of JAY-Z against Dame Dash’s attempt to sell his own Reasonable Doubt NFT, likely to also commemorate Friday’s 25th anniversary. While the ruling was determined to be temporary, JAY-Z’s legal team were able to convince the court of their plight despite Dash describing their tactics as “bullying.”

To hammer home his stance, the press release firmly states, “The auction is also the only official event authorized by JAY-Z to commemorate Reasonable Doubt’s historic 25th anniversary.
