Skeme is really taking it hard…
For those who don’t know who Skeme is…
Wooow. I had no idea that this audio clip was lifted from an actual movie/doc. I always assumed that BlackStar (Mos & Talib) just recorded some graff artists in between sessions while making "Respiration". Great post.
Hearing KaySlay was originally a graffiti artist just adds layers of respect from my end. I'm a visual artist myself. I can't spit. I can't DJ but I can put together a flyass playlist. No fuckin way am I gonna even attempt to breakdance. So I like to think that if ever I was around the culture way back in it's infancy, I would've been runnin around right alongside the taggers and the bombers gettin my shit off in that way.
It's the same feeling I had when I found out that Fab Five Freddy was originally a graffiti artist. Before then I had only known him as the host of Yo MTV Raps. Seeing that he was more than just a guy holding a mic with cool hats and sunglasses just added depth to his role in the culture for me.
Anyway RIP again to the big homie Drama King. Much respect.
