I think of this whenever someone say they from the city but really not...

And that's literally how it is.

I rock Detroit shit all the time, literally every day something on me got Detroit or the "D" on it so when people from Michigan see it they always feel the need to speak. Can't tell you how many times I done had this exact same convo with folks outchea. Niggas from Ferndale, Oak Park, Southfield, Pontiac or something claiming Tha D. I fully understand the white folks that do it, 'cause back inna day they really didn't live in Detroit proper, so when they mention Taylor, Allen Park, Grosse Pointe, or some shit I'm more apt to let it slide.
